BBC is great. The BBC shows that they run in the US aren't always the best ones, though.

It's pretty much the depth of her argumentatory skills (when she isn't taking you seriously), but she really is pretty smart and has a fairly decent understanding of politics. That and she can cook like a mofo (one of these times I'll be down your way for some bbq, 4b).

I, on the other hand, use big words and stuff but know fuck-all about what I'm discussing.

I think the majority of humanity is made up of idiots. Religion is a dinosaur that is slowly but surely dying out and politics represents the various manoeuvrings of an extremely small group of people, meaning that I suspect there to be less than 10 000 truly important people in the entire world and all of those are ridiculously wealthy. As politically inactive persons in an infinite sea of population that can only properly be measured and analysed in terms of high end statistical exercises one comes to understand that we can only hope to observe political events never effect them. I further suspect that several religions, philosophies and even popular movements are nothing more than immensely subtle pieces in a game wielded with blunt control where the only way to damage another player is to assault his net worth. Holdings can represent anything from financial corporations to countries and even popular opinion.

Excuse me while i put some more hangers up im not sure the foil hat is adequate.

It's dying the death in England, but its alive and well in every other country I have ever visited, with no sign of flagging.

I thought the rest of it was a joke?

So...what do Americans think Denmark is like?

Isn't that where all the half-kraut shitporn comes from?
No, really. Isn't there like, a civil war between Kraftwerk fans and metalheads wearing bearskins? And everyone no in the war is smoking pot all the time. Like an eternal college campus, or something. And your grandfathers are like the humans from Ren and Stimpy. Its a sovereing nation, because no one fucking cares enough to annex it.

Its probably not right, but that's what the media tells me, and as an American, I blindly follow it.

You're also closet communists.

You are right on most accounts, except we shy german culture like the plague.
About caring to annex Denmark... its a long story (see part about german culture), but we are NATO members now, thank you USA!

And about closet communism - its a question of definition. But about half of the voters vote for some kind of socialist democracy. And those governments work alright compared to the conservatives, who always manage to fuck up. E.g. Denmark is now part of the Coalition forces. We get a good laugh.

By the way, I'm with Azrael. It's all an illuison and our level of participation equals our level of stupidity.

I know you can't generalize americans, but where on Earth are all the smart ones? In heaven?

After Bush (or another politician) lies to you, and changes the world accordingly, you just take it - you discuss whether the lies will work, and did he seem confident etc.
It seems so powerless. And it sure is. Problem is, you're dragging parts of the world down with you.

American: "why do they hate us so much?!"
Sentient being: "The question answers itself, moron."

So where is the rebellion? Can I have some answers please?

(And you can take advantage of my bunny status if you like)

what are you talking about the war in Iraq , the war against the Taliban , our tv programs or religion ?

by " smart Americans " you mean agrees with you i guess ? have you ever wondered if you may be wrong on some issues ?

i also know that not all of those in European or even middle eastern countries are against us or our ideas , this isn't about region or nationality as much as ideologies.

i know MANY in the EU think they know how to run our country better than we do , and that they only want us to use our troops to implement their policies and their " peace keeping " missions . for when we dare use our troops for our own interest it's illegal or all about oil " .

i know the superior morals of the enlightened left requires us to leave Saddam and the Taliban in power , even though we know you think he is a bad guy and all , but apparently not bad enough for you to do anything about him .

we could have "contained " him for another 20 years , starve him out with sanctions , every leftist knows isolation and starvation is the intellectual and morally superior approach to warfare . starvation causes just as much suffering and death , it's just less messy than bombs . i just looks more moral to leave tyrants in power , that way the death that occurs is hidden and quiet , much less dramatic than bombs , and feeling like they are better , smarter or more enlightened is of greatest importance .

the only problem is Saddam wasn't starving or isolated and neither was the Taliban , his people where . the last ten years worked out so well for Saddam with the oil for palaces program in place , inspectors had been kicked out .. again . and he was supporting Hamas indirectly and directly, all under the UN s snooty cheese sniffing noses .

it also did Bin laden a world of good to have his own country to safely build bases and train terrorist , no one interrupted him or troubled him a bit , he could attack us at his leisure , and when he did attack us , the world was outraged , too fucking late .

we could just wait out tyrants , that way they can plot build their military , we can have a war we THEY are ready . sound familiar ? and when the situation has finally spiraled out of control and there is a body count , the UN can pass a resolution or ten and then a year later we can send in our troops to mop up the mess with the UN's full blessing , wait and see , that strategy has worked so well for Europe in the past .

and i missed the part about religion , but i assume it was about the those stupid religious nuts in America as opposed to the more secularist enlightened EU ?

I'm not a member of the mainstream religious philosophy in America , and the extreme fundamentalist annoy me , but i recognize their right to exist 'not to run my country but exist , they also have a right to be politically active , no less than feminist or the anti war protestors .

the tone i often hear from many of the secularist opinion is religion or spiritually is for the stupid , but the fact is many of the greatest minds in history where religious and some of our greatest scientist where full fledged mystics , i think an off- hand dismissal of the spiritual or supernatural is a result of intellectual laziness .

over all , i think religion is a positive force more than a negative one , and i know about the excesses of fundamentalist , religion prevents the state from becoming a god , which is why totalitarians have always viewed it as a threat , though I'm not in a majority faith , i would rather be surrounded by temples churches and mousqe on all sides than serve a state that thinks of itself as the last word in the universe .

i want church and state reasonably separated , but i think religion is good for a culture .

i agree that most our tv shows suck , they scrape the bottom of the barrel when going after viewers . the only shows i watch are the Simpsons and the History channel most of the time .

however, therein lies the problem. reason is subjective, and the gray area in the middle is what is so hard to define. what one spiritual dogma professes as good for society isn't always shared by another.

I think your questions start to answer themselves.

And by the way, you havent got a clue. Your analysis of the power relations in the world is hopelessly naive, your conclusions are useless and your frustration is obvious.

Whether religion is more good than bad is another not very interesting dilemma. People got burned, people got saved, make up your own mind about God. Then picture Condi swearing upon the Bible. Do you see consistence?

it's always much more easy to dismiss someone generally than it is to deal with specific points isn't it ?

Well, yes, but you did dismiss yourself a lot. For example, I don't even know where to start on this one:

"i know the superior morals of the enlightened left requires us to leave Saddam and the Taliban in power , even though we know you think he is a bad guy and all , but apparently not bad enough for you to do anything about him ."

For me to deal with this specific point and come up with some important lesson for us all is pretty hard.
But actually, it was the american political right that kept Saddam in power throughout the years. They did it as a counterweight to the Iranian government of Lawful Evil clerics. "He is a bad guy, but he is our bad guy", the wise republicans thought. Ever wondered why the iraqis fired SCUD missiles?

But now I too am pretending there is some sense to it all. Lucid, you havent got a clue.

It all started going downhill one cold november morning, when we started raping the huts and burning the women.

Battle-axe tourism has ended, sure enough.
The main advantage the vikings had was to be able to strike and retreat before any real counterforces had time to mobilize.

In Greenland... Inuit groups kicked norse ass almost every time.

history is fine... overhyped circle-jerk national stereotypes are silly.

Cheers
