Post How many of you actually know each other in real life?

Certain relationships are are obvious here, but I was wondering if we could actually pin down who actually knows/sees who on a daily/ regular basis. I see people in chat saying "So&So just called me" and stupid shit like that. I am interested in people who know each other in real life yet still find it necessary to relate to each other in the digital realm. It is almost lame if you are simultaneously chatting online, on the phone, and in a thread with people you party with regularly.

Now before the punches start flying (and I am ready), I will point out that WastedP is one of my very best friends. However, we live almost 10,000 miles away from each other. Our other friends who live near him don't get involved online with him as much as I do, perhaps because they can see him in real life.

I don't know. Sometimes it just feels like the Asylum is a bunch of friend's online playroom. Its almost like MTV's Real World made from a forum and chat room. I know plenty of you don't know each other other than the online personas, and I wish that I was in the U.S. cause it might be cool to meet up and play chess with tack in person or whatever. But living online and in real life with the same people just strikes an odd chord.

Or maybe I am just stuck in the 90s.

What becomes of the surplus of human life? It is either, 1st. destroyed by infanticide, as among the Chinese and Lacedemonians; or 2d. it is stifled or starved, as among other nations whose population is commensurate to its food; or 3d. it is consumed by wars and endemic diseases; or 4th. it overflows, by emigration, to places where a surplus of food is attainable.

I know myself quite well in real life. I also happen to be pretty fond of some other people that I have happened across in real life.

That's why I'm rarely online anymore. This all seems so boring to come back to after actually seeing, hearing and feeling things out there in the big ol' world.

Things move alot faster out there, but that's the appeal.

Apart from that, no I do not know anyone here in real life. Several of my friends used to frequent this site and other forums, but they all went on to other things. In the end I felt almost bad for getting them hooked onto these forums, so I now warn people away.

I know Freelance pretty well. I wouldn't mind getting to know Nomad, who doesn't live too far from me. We share a fair bit in common.

I know far too few of you in real life for my liking.

i know sp00ky and slappy, and a few others.

Slappy i met online and met her, and we talk on the phone sometimes, and are supposed to be goign out for a drink, as soon as i get some money and then organise it.

There are quite a few people here i consider to be very close friends, and i intend to meet in real life, Kitten especially, I'd love to go and fight with tack too and there are many other i intend to meet. There are only a few that i've actually known before meeting them on here though, and they are all people i introduced to here or SPF from work.

I am planning a bit of an excursion around the states, gonna meet a load of you wierdos and get drunk, its going to be a while till i do anything like that though.

PaintCHiPs only. He designed me in about 1995; we interacted regularly for a few years before he released me to create as much trouble as I could. He subsequently summoned me to this board a couple of months ago, for very much the same reason the British brought the Hessians to colonial America.

Haven't talked to him face-to-face in about two or three years, which raises the question: after how long an absence do two online friends no longer "know each other in real life"?

Indeed.

Yes, CHiPsJr is the only one I knew pre-Asylum. The other three came from it.

BTW, will be in Topeka from the 23rd to the 27th of December if you are around.

I had thought that more people knew each other in person. I don't really see anything wrong with it, but there are times when it felt like everyone was mixed up in everyone's life. Maybe I was lonely, jealous, or just in a foul mood. I don't really know so many people even in here. Trading forum posts is a slow way to get to know people, but chatting makes a big difference. Course, I don't get to spend so much time online, so I only slowly get to know people.

As I get to know more of you though, I think it would be fun to meet. I doubt I will get over your way anytime, but for the most part, you all can come see me anytime. Good noodles over here you know

Here is a different nosy question: When people meet, I suspect you use forum monikers to refer to each other, no? How many people go by their forum name in the off-line world, karen excluded.

Paint CHiPs has been my IRL nickname for about 3 or 4 years, so yeah, I go by it a lot. And yes, I still have a hard time referring to people by their real names. Especially since Rizz has "Rizz" tatooed on the back of his neck.

If I knew someone well enough to meet them in person, I wouldn't be referring to them by their 'net name in person. By then, there would be a certain amount of familiarity, friendship and trust that would make using nicks laughable. Even here, I use real names in private chats when I know the person enough. I'm familiar with many others who do as well.
