Kudo's to him.
It's a shame he doesn't get paid better.

but I don't think real estate would be the right career for him.

Now investing in real estate is something he could do.
If he's willing to take the risk.
I bet he could flip a house like a mutherfucker.
He'd cream his pants doing all the rehab work.

see now, what you gotta do is, start with planning. figure out what you're gonna need, and BUY THE TOOLS FIRST. you can always justify tools in light of existing equipment. then, buy the engine you've decided on. it can just be a bare block you found in a junkyard, because this is your dream car. you're going to rebuild the engine anyway, right? buy a piece at a time, make it your birthday/christmas/i just got a raise/i quit smoking/whatever gift to yourself. just one or two pieces when you can afford them. be prepared to have this thing filling one or both bays of your garage for several years, though.

It does work.
It took me six months to save up for my last posi rear, but before that I was buying one part from every pay check.
I need two gauges and brake lines and I'll have enough parts to be driving the fucker.
2 years later, but one part at a time. 1 week at a time.

Finding the time to assemble it is a different story.

How does one know if he's having a mid life crisis?
What IS a mid life crisis?
What are the signs?

I always thought that the signs where ,
1) grow a realy dodgy 80's style moustach
2) wear brightly coloured ' hawain' style shirts with the buttons undone
3) expose your chest hair through said undone shirt buttons
4) addorn your neck with a rather tacky looking gold medallion
5) part exchange your family sized car for a rather crap sports car
6) hang out at bars and try to pull girls by flaunting all of the above.

Im off to comb my chest hair and fire up my Trans-Am

not as an agent, as an investor. Buying it, making something, owning something...a legacy. a car is a poor choice to fulfill "so I have something to leave behind..something tangable...when I die.
". land is a much much more prudent choice.

making $45, 000 in under two months with no effort by making a wise real estate purchase is much more rad. as soon as you drive a car off the lot it starts depreciating. that = not rad.

Means the woman is making good sense, and should continue in that vein. I may not like her much, damned sure she don't like me, but I believe in recognizing good sense when shown. It is rare.

No 4B, it's not.

Because a nice farmhouse with 150 acres does not say "grandpa was a hot rodder and could do anything with his hands"

LF is talking about something entirely different. I understand what he means.

There's a fistful of things most people want for themselves in life. And yet most of them settle for the car.

It doesn't make it the best choice. But there is an entirely different mentality driving the common folk who don't have money to spare. People with low paying jobs that require a heart of gold. People that are supporting more than one child with said job while waiting for the balloon payment to show up on their land contract because that was they only way they could put a private roof over their childrens heads.

People like that, they are not thinking about monetary things to pass on to the next generation. They don't have it to give. They want to pass on a piece of themselves. In whatever form. A book, hand-me-down knowledge, how to hunt and provide for the family, maybe, just maybe, something that they built with their own two hands.

You and simon are talking investment.

You can't make a better investment than a well thought out land purchase.
It will surely be a good thing to pass on down the line through generations.

But there's something a little better than land to pass on to your youngins and loved ones.

Knowledge.

Fucking show your kids HOW to make wise property investments.

Show them that you pay less taxes on passive income than earned income.

Show them that the only thing that will work for them 24x7 for the rest of their life, is well placed liquid assets.

Show them that they CAN'T afford to finance anything EVER unless they can double the proposed payment.

Teach them about money, which surprisingly few parents ever actually do.

Usually because they don't really know anything about money themselves.

No, you guys are wrong.

He needs to build a car for himself.

Why?

Because he fucking likes cars.

Because he's been waiting 20 years to do it.

Hopefully, someday he'll learn about money and make wise investments that will render his family with generational wealth.

But I bet he settles for the car first.
Rusty old shells sitting in someones back yard talk to guys like us.
They get in our heads and tell us what they want done.

Just like a rehab/flip that's priced right does to you.

And remember, I'm writing all this from the second largest brokerage in central ohio, with over a quarter of a billion $'s in transactions last year.

The #1 slot is reporting multiple offices...

Lemme know when you wanna keep some of that scratch your paying to the broker. I'll hook you up.

Face it, you fucked up raising him. If he loved you, he'd kill you in one last glorious battle to the end. Granted, it'll probably be heavily one-sided and overall a cakewalk since he will effortlessly smite you thanks to your advancing decrepicy, but it'll be a far more honorable and satisfying end than the straw-bed death already lined up for you.

You could try rectifying the situation by regularly calling him a fairy and a sissy.
