i played ultimate alliance II for like an hour today.

it's kind of cool that your party can consist of blade, spider man, ghost rider, and wolverine all at once... but very quickly does that coolness wear off. then, sadly, you're stuck with a really boring, crappy game.

I moved on from Ultimate Alliance II to this. I like the Marvel team RPG games, though they're kind of easy and not all that well done and some of the mechanics leave much to be desired (the power combos, for instance). I think the sheer novelty of playing as Marvel characters just has a lot of draw for me.

I then moved on to Final Fantasy XII, which I bought the day it came out. I had Thanksgiving break this week, and intended to get a lot of work done, but I've instead moved into a straight nocturnal half-sleep half-waking state wherein I sleep like 12 hours a day and play Final Fantasy for the 12 waking hours. It's ridiculous, and now that it's the weekend already and I've accomplished jack shit this week save chalking up 175 hours or whatever on that game, I feel wicked guilty.

Still, man is it an addictive game, and even more pointless than most video games, though it's gorgeous. I don't like the license system though--it's kind of cool until you grind out all the license points you need, at which point you're just waiting around to be able to buy shit (why is stuff like hastega, holy, and the Gambit for KO and status=blind like the last shit you can get a hold of?), and every character is more or less the same in terms of abilities.

Still, can't....stop....playing.....

Oh, and Blade, Spiderman, and Wolverine aren't even worth playing, though Ghost Rider sure is. There's something imminently satisfying about maxing out his hellfire thing and then just standing back, charging it up, and setting whatever enemy you want on fire for nearly instant death. Everybody's running around hitting each other, and you're just standing around setting them on fire one by one. Good times.

The characters you have to unlock though are the worst (Nick Cage, Black Cat, wtf?), and who the hell thought Electra, Ms. Marvel, or Spiderwoman would be cool in any context?

Hahahah, yeah you do.

I mostly agree with your thoughts on FFXII.

It IS fucking beautiful, but it has its flaws. I played (what felt like) non-stop for about 50 hours or so, but I've sort of hit a rut and haven't gone back to it in like four days. My license board is pretty much all filled out, I'm just waiting to buy stuff.

I'm doing this one without any help from walkthroughs so I'll probably miss a bunch of espers, but oh well.

Espers are pretty much bosses that you run into that aren't part of the main storyline. When you run into a cave or something and see a big BOSS bar at the top and weren't expecting to hit anything, that's probably an Esper. They're pretty much useless, as far as I can tell, though getting them is fun. I don't think I've ever had any success using them ever. I summon them and they appear and then the monster kills it in like two hits and that's that. Half the time the Esper appears and just tries to cast Cura on me a few times before getting smoked, so I'm pretty much wasted all my energy for nothing. They were badass in Final Fantasy X; I have no idea why they suck so bad this time.

The boss battles get more fun in the later game (assuming I'm in the later game) and are pretty much better than in any other Final Fantasy (they're all challenging), but the grinding gets pretty mind-numbing, and since it's Final Fantasy, like 98% of the time you're just killing wolves and shit. There's no real skill involved in anything but the big battles, and it gets particularly bad when the game designers just throw in random busy work to make the game feel like it has "scope" (nothing so bad as the "Collect Every Monster Everywhere" thing in X, but some really fucking pointless mini-games/challenges that you have to complete to move forward, as well as the Patented Random Obstacle Thing That Is Sort of Like a Puzzle Except It Doesn't Require Any Thinking Just A Lot Of Moving From Point A to Point B and Back Again thing that makes Final Fantasy never quite be great).

I have completed Call of Cthulhu. Great game, overall, with enough parts that are honestly frightening to really be a good job of bringing Lovecraft to the game world.
There are several parts, though, which were very difficult; enough so that I had to download a walkthrough and get some hints. In a couple of places, I really had no idea what to do next. Also, the game has no automap feature, or anything of that sort, so in several places you have to remember how to get through a fairly complicated area to get several different items, sometimes while being chased by unspeakable horrors.

Great stuff, though.

Warcraft 3, Reign of Chaos then I'll move to Frozen Throne again.

it's always fun to go back to old games again. I'll have to agree with Smug on one thing though, Elves suck.

oh, and they should have made the Ensnare ability (netting flying units so ground units can attack) an autocast ability for all the races. Not just the undead. it gets really annoying when I'm playing the orc campaign and I have to put the Raider group on a hotkey and pull down every single flying unit manually.

in other news Dungeon Siege is being made into a movie. Uwe Boll shouldn't be able to make movies anymore.

Medieval II: Total War.

Plays a lot like Medieval I: Total War. Some moderately interesting innovations in the campaign, but the battle AI is just too dumb.

Rainbow Six: Vegas (360)

Outstanding. The ways in which you can outfit your player for online action is the bollocks. All the weapons, the clothing, everything.

A must have game if you own the 360.

I'm back on the World of Warcraft wagon. I have a 17 Human Warrior with mining / blacksmithing that I'm using to make a little cash for my 16 Night Elf Hunter. I'm thinking about abandoning skinning / leather working and finding something more profitable like herbalism, alchemy, or mining. Lord knows you could make money off the silver veins in Darkshore.

Is there a lot of real world cash-money selling (i.e. ebay) going on with WoW items, or is it all just in-game gold/item/whatever trading?
