Baking

I just bought an oven yesterday, and want to bake something very simple. I was thinking of chocolate chip cookies, or basically anything to do with biscuits with chocolates.

I can't bake any cakes yet because I still have to buy other utensils for cake baking. So most I can do now is cookies. Anyone got recipes that have been passed down to from mom's, aunts, dads, grandmas?

I've browsed the Internets too, just looking for extra ideas.

Exactly JEB, nothing is more satisfying than home made biscuits. I need recipes! I'm going to go shop for baking powder, nuts, chocolate chips, etc. Also is putting ice cream into the mixture a good idea? Will the cookies set well?

heres the recipe for biscuits.

open the biscuits, put them on a pan then cook according to the directions on the biscuit can.

the gravy is my fav.

you need
some ground sausage
2 tbsp flour
some milk
salt & pepper

cook the sausage then remove the meat and set aside add the flour to the sausage grease and mix it to soak up the greas, add some milk and wisk until it is the desired consistency, then just add the meat and serve atop ye olde bisquits

You just bought an oven yesterday? Ok. Conceivable. But you make it out like you've never baked anything before. Wtf? Are you 12?

On a more helpful note, the simplest, tastiest chocolate chip cookies are the recipe on the back of the Tollhouse Semi-sweet bag.

Is Jazabelle talking about 'biscuits' in the British/Australian/etc sense, or in the US sense?

Doesn't matter Smug, I'm just wondering if anyone has a unique and different recipe compared to the normal one's you can find in books and the Internet.

And willimo, no I've never baked before, and I only bought an oven recently because I've not been living in a permanent place for a while, infact I still am not, but I couldn't wait any longer, so I bought the oven anyways. Also I'm guessing you have baked, just wondering though, do you wear flowery approns to match your hair?

Well, what the British call 'biscuits' and what the Americans call 'biscuits' are really very different; the American 'biscuit', in the UK, would be a sort of 'scone'.

The King of Cakes is Victoria Sponge (one of the easiest to make, as well). Cream 4 oz of sugar into 4 oz of margerine, fold in two eggs (each with a little flour) then beat in 4oz of self-raising flower. Put into two lined 6" tins and 20-25 minutes in an oven preheated at 180C/350F. Turn out and wait until cool, then sandwich together with some strawberry or raspberry jam and possibly also some buttercream icing.

EDIT: Made two corrections (margerine only (not butter), and use self-raising flour)

Those easy bake ovens are tricky, though.
When the directions say don't go higher than 75 watts on the lightbulb, that's because if you go with 100 watts, you can melt your oven.
I know this from experience.

For the Victoria Sponge, use margerine rather than butter. Also, I forgot to mention, use self-raising flour. Will edit both of those into the instructions.

Self raising flour and margerine, got it. Both things I already have at home, and don't need to go buy, perfect!

Oh Kay Jaz. I know you're not from the states, but in what country do you rent an apartment where something as common as an oven is not like standard equipment?

LF: I live with three other people. We have a really tiny kitchen. I'm just being conciderate in not over crowding it, as the other girls already have too many things around. It's a huge clutter really. Our fridge is over filled with stuff, and we hardly have room to cook dishes and lay them around the kitchen counter, so we can't cook big meals with more than two dishes. And as much as I hate to say this but we do have one absolutely inconsiderate housemate who buys tons and tons of stuff, and doesn't care if she takes up other people's places, which adds to the clutter we already have. She has two rice cookers for god's sake

Also, I don't think that really anwered your question, haha. Basically, we don't share items, you buy it, you use it. So I guess all the people who've lived there, just never needed an oven. (people move in and out alot) I've needed one forever...we do have one at home in my folks place of course, so now I have my own
