Perry Como ~ Till The End Of Time (1945)

This was a huge hit for the seventh son of a seventh son:

An ancient television clip.

Ernest Tubb ~ Walking The Floor Over You

Mr. Tubb started on his way to becoming a honky-tonk legend with this song that, as best as I am able to determine, was recorded in 1941:

His band was called The Texas Troubadours. Here's a well-written bio on this country great.

Amen.

Vern is called "The Voice". This song is one of the, if not the, best drinkin' songs ever:

The Carter Family ~ Wildwood Flower

I'll wager most of you aren't aware that a woman was one of the most influential guitar players of all time. June Carter Cash's mother, Maybelle Carter, is the woman of which I speak. She's the one credited with the Carter scratch style of picking that influenced a host of musicians to follow. Here's a video of a beautifully sweet old song:

About the Carter Family, from wikipedia.

Herb Alpert ~ This Guy's in Love With You

This recent video of Burt Bacharach performing the song on Japanese television is also very good:

Gisele MacKenzie ~ That's Amore (and more)

I posted this primarily because the following video (embedding disabled) is pretty entertaining and really shows how times have changed in a very short time. Specifically, note the cigarette: That's Amore.

Oh, here's Edward R. Murrow, Gisele, and another cigarette.

Yet more joy for the p. c. police.

A bio on this very accomplished Canadian legend.

Amen.

Ray Charles ~ I Can't Stop Loving You

Not much I can think if to say about the great Ray Charles that hasn't already been said. Like so many of the songs he wrote, this one became a classic, covered by many:

Yeah, the stills in the video are rather silly, but I chose it for the audio quality. About Ray, from wikipedia.

Amen.
