Freddie Fender ~ Wasted Days and Wasted Nights

Start digging the history of Freddie Fender f/k/a Baldemar Huerta and you'll find a lot of nuggets and blueblood intersecting. Here's his original 1960 recording that he re-recorded in 1975 and got a nice hit, following the huge "Before the Next Teardrop Falls":

About Freddie, from wikipedia.

Here's the Texas Tornados.

Amen.

Hey, JEB. TT's posting of "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" reminded me of a comedy song I heard Roy Rogers and Dale Evans do when I was quite small. I've never been able to find a recording of it - maybe you can.

To the tune of Chattanooga Choo-choo they sang the story of a kitten and some expensive new shoes, the chorus of which ran, "Pardon me Roy, is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?" I heard it live, and don't know if they ever recorded it.

Here's what I've found, so far:

According to here, the song you're talking about is "Cat Who Chewed Your New Shoes" by Malcolm Higgins, which parodied "Chattanooga Choo Choo" by Hank Snow. Of course, the version I'm familiar with is by the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Here's Hank Snow's version; I'm still trying to find your parody:

Frankly, I'd ask Rokkr. IMHO, if he can't find it, it's unfindable.

Amen.

I've heard the joke, hell I've even told it. But I've never heard it as a song.
I'll see if I can find such an animal.
I was the biggest Roy Rogers fan as a kid and I don't ever remember them doing any such song. Doesn't mean they didn't though.

Ok, haven't been able to find a performer yet and the parody was written this century, so I seriously doubt Roy Rogers ever sang it, but here are the lyrics written by a guy named Malcolm Higgins.

Pardon me, roy, is that the cat who chewed your new shoes?
oh they looked real fine,
and I'm glad they werent mine...

how you afford, that little cat who chewed your new shoes
hope it doesn't repeat
while they're still on your feet

it chewed nike, and some fila, and my sandals to crap,
it chewed the tongue, the soles, the laces and it mangled the strap
hope it don't repeat this on my new adidas
cause I gotta leave for Carolina

when the puss was left alone, I knew what she'd do
but what I didn't know that was she also would chew..
gave her food and litter,
I guess she just got bitter
and said baby, there you are..

she doesn't like the taste of boots or leather on her face
I find she's such a picky eater now she's gonna die
just wait till I get home
so ,the cat who chewed my new shoes, wait till I get home
so ,the cat who chewed my new shoes, wait till I get home

Pardon me, Roy, is that the cat who chewed your new shoes?
oh they looked real fine,
and I'm glad they weren't mine...

Apparently Malcolm writes a lot of parodies, listed here:

The song and the joke are both much older than 8 years. May be that they never recorded their version of it. I heard it at the San Joaquin Valley Cattleman's Association picnic around 1960 or so. I drove my poor Mom crazy singing the chorus repeatedly for a while afterwards.
