yarp, and likely will be still. But I had time and inclination today so I came to see who's surviving.

Anybody pole dancing yet?

Where do they work?

I promise I'll warm up the change first...

Well we did get a little thing calling itself "Ashe" and I have little doubt she pole dances. She usually hangs out in IoD it seems.

I'm a financial advisor now.. but I sometimes toy with the idea of being a second grade teacher like I originally planned.. HR.. or interior design.

That's the UK minimum! Companies are allowed to do what they like if it's over.

I'm getting 8 times the legal minimum for my 17 years.

Sweet Jesus.......40,000 GBP for not being needed anymore. Hail Britannia!

Can you also go on the dole and "Look for Work" that's comparable to your old position? How long could that last?

Good God Man...you could go on holiday for a extended period of time!

Blackpool, Torquay, or INJA!

Roughly mid 30's after tax.

I'm not even going to think about looking for work for 6 months. Just going to fanny about on my mountain bike.

And I'm going to claim the dole too!

Oh ... and I get my council tax paid ....

Hey ..... I'm like an English LF!!! I RULE!

in this current financial climate wouldn't it be prudent to not only be actively seeking work, but to also use your payout as a safety net in case there aren't any jobs out there?
life would blow homeless person cock if you were to come out of the other side of your laziness bender and suddenly have no money or job.
periods of inactivity also look bad on your resume. i can see it now...

prospective employer: so, mr 400..what exactly did you do in the 8 months following your last term of employment?

drz400: um, ah, urm .... i rocked back and forth on a mason jar as i watched dogsex videos and cauterized my nipples with a soldering iron.

I'm actually going to spend 3 hours a day on me bike, and the rest of the day studying Microsoft SharePoint, Business Objects - Crystal Reports, and writing VB.NET and C#.NET freeware mixed in with a bit of Windows Mobile development.

Might even learn Java.

There's a lot to learn and improve upon and I'm going to come back fighting fit and with a sexy tan.

FFS You never give LF this shit.

I know what you're saying about a break in your CV looks bad... but I'm 33 and quite fancy a break for a few months... 5 to be precise.

FFS.....You've just spent 17 years employed at the same place and been made redundant. my response to any hiring manager would be.

Considering the current economic climate it seemed prudent to take a training sabbatical and significantly improve my skill set. I've included some more relevant programming languages, collaborative server platforms, and established a strong curve lightweight mobile app development.

We need forward thinking people like you in our organization, people who've actually looked at where technology is headed and gotten a little proactive and gained the skills need to compete today. You don't need to see anyone else your hired!

Nice Tan!

We were scared you'd be another bleeding art school dropout who in between stints as a photographer or a printer had been dealing dope only to come out the ass end of the system and find themselves working hard

....You know, hard like strap-on suki.

Sharepoint has done very well despite criticism from the non MS crowd. You benefit from the fact that MS billed it as a cure-all for the enterprise and got a lot of companies to make significant commitments to the platform, and that it's got a fairly steep curve to design for it. and its a nice mix of automating the business process and social networking for the enterprise.

Crystal Reports is also another good choice you mentioned. The ability to give management easy access to the information they need (to effectively run their business) is a skill that will never lose favor. Advanced reporting is a skill that could keep you employed for the rest of your life.

All Good choices!

How's your SQL...I'm assuming you've been connecting to MS SQL data sources for quite some time. You might even want to bring up a SQL 2008 box at home and get familiar with it and the "SQL Reporting Services" knowledge of advanced and custom reporting from the database server would be a natural tie-in with the Crystal Reports.

"SQL 2008 Reports can be designed using recent versions of Microsoft Visual Studio (including Visual Studio.NET 2003 onwards) with Business Intelligence Development Studio, installed or with the included Report Builder. Once created, RDL files can be rendered in a variety of formats"

Great now I want Crystal Reports and a 2008 SQL server!

I've been using Business Objects 6.1 for years ... just got to make the transition to Crystal Reports.

I'm pretty good at SQL ... this'll give you a fucking stiffy ..... Windows Sidebar gadgets .... fuck all the BO, Crystal report shit ..... write your own gadget that's permanently on the sidebar monitoring a database, pack it full of alerts, and make it fully drillable. Had some top bod from Nokia practically sucking my cock the first time he saw one!
