the Screwtape letters?

Si; relatively enjoyable - I'm not a fan of Mr. L's religion per se, but some of it is fairly generic.

I prefer Poe's 'The Imp of the Perverse' as a way of examining the subject attempted by The Screwtape Letters. Not that Screwtape is bad - it's a nifty conceit and all; it's 'classic' so there's points for reading it - I think Mr Lewis was an OK writer but he was addicted to Christ's moob and failed thereby to fully plumb human experience. For this reason, his devils will never quite succeed in their aims. Poe's devils were real; that shit thunders off the page.

Wasn't Poe a lunatic, and a drunk? I've never read 'The Imp of the Perverse'. I do have his collective works though, so I'm sure I'll get around to reading it but from what I have read, I gotta be honest. I personally find Poe's genius an accident, and by that I mean we accidentally think he's one; he's trolling?

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

This is the thread that started the road to me and Muffers in marriage. I have her name tattooed on that chest now.

It's just so cringe-inducing, but also kind of sweet. Like looking at prom photos from the 80s and 90s.

When people ask me how I met my husband, I tell them he was offered up for a breeding experiment in an asylum we both attended. I can usually tell whether I'm going to like the person by how they respond.

I have limited psychos, overall. Sexual abuse, the guy who tried to kill my cat. They guy who when rejected ordered pizzas to my parents' house, and the guy who cyberstalked/s me by putting spyware on my phone. Under 50 percent.

Haha I am nice to a point of gullibility and have a terrible habit of finding lost souls. Been hard to admit. Now happy to date but not to take on projects.

Do you experience the 3-6 month phenomenon? Back when I used to "date" (roughly translated to hooking up at bar), I'd find that guys would be on their best behaviour for usually about 3 to 6 months, then the weird stuff would start to happen - by then I'd usually feel somewhat invested in the situation. Looking back, it was such a fucking time waster.

Used to. Cannot be bothered with wasting more than a month now. If I get a spidey sense tingling I am out. Though now finding ghosting is a thing. Why say you had fun if intent is to never hang out?

I suppose because it's considered polite But yeah, I agree, best just be honest about things like that (plus it doesn't send mixed messages to the stalkers).

Interesting comment about the 3-6 month phenomenon. Ive noticed its not uncommon for marriages to hit the ditch at around the 7-year marker.

Amen.

My parents have been together for 38 years, and I've witnessed only one time they threatened to split up. When I go to visit these days, they still laugh and poke fun at each other. I've never experienced that love, respect or whatever it is they share, for another person. Not even myself.

I was engaged while in the army, but we couldn't stop cheating on each other, that's the closest I came. Admittedly, I haven't been with many women, but the ones I have were okay to great. Not sure if psycho bait applies, though you'll get no argument from me as to how selfish I am. ME ME ME, see what I mean?

7 year itch
There is a movie about it. I see more fail within a year. As I see it, cancelling my wedding to momma's boy just let me skip the divorce.

Have you noticed that there's a lot more spousal murder these days? We need more prisons just for this!
