Actual reasons for terrorism

A majority of westerners seem to believe that the cause of terrorism is a lack of airport security.

quote:
A US federal judge has dismissed all charges against five guards from US security firm Blackwater over the killing of 17 Iraqis in 2007.

As well as the 14 counts of manslaughter, they had faced 20 counts of attempted manslaughter and one count of using a machine gun to commit a crime of violence, a charge that carries a 30-year minimum sentence.

Their lawyers said the men were thrilled by the ruling.

"It's tremendously gratifying to see the court allow us to celebrate the new year the way it has," said Bill Coffield, who represents Mr Liberty. "It really invigorates your belief in our court system."

The disputed evidence concerned statements the guards gave to state department investigators, which they were told would not be used to bring a criminal case.

This limited immunity deal meant that prosecutors should have built their case against the men without using the statements.

quote:

At least five people were killed Saturday when missiles from an unmanned US aircraft hit a suspected militant compound in Pakistan's northwest tribal belt, security officials said.

The missiles struck a house in Saidgi village of North Waziristan tribal district, which borders Afghanistan, officials said.

"Two missiles hit a house, five militants were killed," an intelligence official told AFP.

Another security official confirmed the drone attack and the toll, adding that the house belonged to a local tribesman named Asmatullah, who, he said, had links with Taliban militants.

The two officials refused to be named because of the sensitivity of US drone attacks in Pakistan, which have inflamed anti-American sentiment.

Neither official's statements could be confirmed independently.
....

US media have reported that the White House authorised the CIA to expand the use of drones in Pakistan to strike suspected Taliban and Al-Qaeda members.

Since August 2008, at least 69 such strikes, including Saturday's, have killed about 647 people. It is difficult to confirm the identity of those killed while the US military does not as a rule confirm individual bombings.

KABUL, Afghanistan — The second episode of civilian deaths within a week was under investigation Thursday by the Afghan government and NATO officials after reports that up to seven civilians had been killed in Helmand Province in a NATO missile strike.

The latest episode, in Helmand, took place Wednesday afternoon on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, when NATO forces responded to a Taliban provocation and ended up killing a number of civilians. Neither NATO forces nor the Helmand governor’s office gave a definitive number of dead, but reports from local people said that five to seven civilians had been killed, including three children.

The event followed charges earlier this week by the Afghan government and villagers in Kunar Province that a nighttime raid by international forces last weekend resulted in the deaths of 10 civilians, 8 of them school-age boys.

Sept and countless other acts of terrorism preceded any of the current rationalizations and excuses used as rallying cries by people who already had their own agenda based on their own philosophy about the place of Islam in politics and the world..

The drone attacks are a result of terrorism rather than a cause of it. It's a response to attacks on us.

This brand of Islam is a supremacist hate group. Plain and simple. They are not just reacting to actual or perceived wrongs. They use our actions but don't need them.

When AQ meets in people's homes, "collateral damage" will follow.

The sad thing is we are using military means to fight against an idea.

We destroyed the village to save the village in Viet Nam enough that it endeared us so much to the South Vietnamese enough that they tolerated Northern agents in their midst.

Afghanistan is not Viet Nam, but there's more than enough parallels involved.

Based on the Dane's analysis, volleyball is an actual reason for terrorism.

quote:

Death toll in Pakistan volleyball bombing rises to 75
01 Jan 2010 18:42:39 GMT
Source: Reuters
ISLAMABAD, Jan 1 (Reuters) - The death toll from a suicide bomb attack at a volleyball game in northwest Pakistan on Friday reached 75, police said.

"We have removed all bodies and wounded from the rubble and now the total death toll is 75 while 42 people were wounded," local police chief Ayub Khan told Reuters by telephone.

Try and read the title of the thread. But I'm flattered that you're looking to me for answers. Then agan, perhaps you should turn your cries for help elsewhere.

I know you guys can figure out the answer to this common reason for terrorism.

AP sources: Bomber at CIA base was a double agent

The suicide bomber who killed eight people inside a CIA base in Afghanistan claimed to have information about Osama bin Laden's second-in-command, and was being recruited as a double agent to infiltrate al-Qaeda, a former senior US intelligence official and a foreign government official confirmed Monday.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,...3829792,00.html

Or in other words,

The suicide bombing on a CIA base in Afghanistan last week was carried out by a Jordanian doctor who was an al-Qaida double-agent, Western intelligence officials told NBC News.

Whatever the angle you put on this, CIA failed. AGAIN.

I get that they failed, or rather, got fucked on this one. But I dont really see the point...I mean, they play for some rather hefty stakes...real life and death king of the world shit...there are going to be wins and loses and big ones of each...are you making a point about some pattern of CIA 'failure' or whatever?

Obama seems to be correcting the failure though. We are now going to profile people getting onto planes by high risk national origin. In other words Muslims by national origin rather than religion.

Turns out airport security is BAD for counter-terrorism.

quote:
"The public isn't aware how many people are allowed to travel through the U.S., who are linked, who intersect with bad guys or alleged bad guys," a national security official said. "It makes sense from an intelligence perspective. If they are not considered dangerous, it provides intelligence on where they go, who they meet with."
http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-...0,7706989.story

quote:
"This investigation is fast-paced, global and ongoing, and it has already yielded valuable intelligence that we will follow wherever it leads," Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. said. "Anyone we find responsible for this alleged attack will be brought to justice using every tool -- military or judicial -- available to our government."

Oh good

Ooh, it seems researching atoms is an actual cause for terrorism too. Apparently six nuclear scientists have disappeared or been killed since may. And often this is followed up with USA suddenly knowing a lot about secret research facilities.

Which of course beggars the fantastic question: Is it alright to kill nuclear scientists to prevent a country from gaining the nuke? Or will we dodge that question entirely and go 'it was insiders trying to make the west look bad'.

First question is - was he actually killed? Or was he spirited away by the Iranian authorities to continue weapons development work? Second question is, if he was in fact killed, who arranged his death?

Your question as regards the killing of scientists who are involved in weapons development is trivial - of course they are legitimate targets , although I'm sure you'd disagree. Just as the Iranian authorities are acting in their nations interests by pursuing nuclear research, other nations would be acting in their own interests by stopping that research - if that means killing the researchers, so be it.

The devil is in the details:

quote:
Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.
...
The company's vision is described on its Web site: "Guided by our values, we endeavor to have our products used wherever precision aiming solutions are required to protect individual freedom."

"We believe that America is great when its people are good," says the Web site. "This goodness has been based on Biblical standards throughout our history, and we will strive to follow those morals."
...
""It's wrong, it violates the Constitution, it violates a number of federal laws," said Michael "Mikey" Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, an advocacy group that seeks to preserve the separation of church and state in the military. It allows the Mujahedeen, the Taliban, al Qaeda and the insurrectionists and jihadists to claim they're being shot by Jesus rifles," he said.

Weinstein, an attorney and former Air Force officer, said many members of his group who currently serve in the military have complained about the markings on the sights. He also claims they've told him that commanders have referred to weapons with the sights as "spiritually transformed firearm[s] of Jesus Christ."
