The Warriors Way", written and directed by Sngmoo Lee. I quite enjoyed it, with its combination of sphagetti western and over the top samurai swordsmanship.

Sleepless (2017)

I saw this at the "sneak peek". Interestingly, I was the only patron in the theatre. The only other time that happened to me was when I say "Marci X" on opening night. It was awful.

Naturally, this served to further lower my already low expectations, although I admit to being pleasantly surprised upon learning patrons to Sleepless got a free small popcorn.

Free popcorn, however, wasn't the only pleasant surprise of the evening. It turned out the flick was also quite the pleasant surprise. In sum, it's a load o' movie shit 'n' kaka, but in a good and entertaining way. Here's a link.

Amen.

You THOUGHT you were the only one in the theatre. The truth is that everyone else was playing "Hide 'n Seek" and you were "it."

No. I was the only one there. And one copious fart insured my enjoyment of said venue would remain solo.

Sorry, Uncle Jeb, I forgot about this great skill you have. In fact, I thought you put this skill to great use that time you flew to Atlanta
and you wanted to get everyone off the plane so you could have it all to yourself. Brilliant! And it even made the news!

Live By Night (2017)

I saw this Ben Affleck production and showcase earlier this evening. It was good; certainly much better than the RT critics' 32% rating. It's a period mob piece that doesn't overdo it with the mob goomba clich stuff.

That said, there's nothing enhanced by the big screen. Hence, if you can wait, save money and either watch it at the dollar movie, or at home. Here's a link.

Amen.

XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017)

I watched this a coupla nights ago primarily because I was in the mood to watch a flick in the theatre and I'd run out of other movies I'd consider watching.

Well, I watched it. In 3D. I would've enjoyed it much, much more if I had been 12 or 13 years old.

And that's that. Here's a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up Split (2017)

I saw this last Thursday. At the sneak peek. Frankly, I had my doubts, primarily because M. Night Shyamalan has become known to me as someone who makes turds and passes them off as movies. The only two exceptions that come to mind are The Sixth Sense and The Visit.

I am pleased to report that Split isn't another turd in flick clothing. It's very watchable. But, if you're tight for coin, there's no need to pay retail. You can enjoy this one every bit as much at home. In fact, there's a very real possibility you might enjoy it even more at home, considering you can't rewind, freeze-frame, etc., at the theatre.

Here's a link.

Oh, and I might add that Betty Buckley is yummy.

Amen.

Never seen but I know that movie. It's probably similar.
It's really not a true musical because the songs stop then you get drama.
But the producers used how movies used to be made back in the 50's.
They basically made Gosling like the next Sanatra.
I was a little offended at the end when the meaning of the title made sense.
But that was the part that has them winning.

Manchester by the sea

It took way to long to get the message across.
Too many details.
Then when you are finally engaged and you wanted more,it ends.
I don't get why this movie was nominated for anything.

Thanks. Apart from the hype nothing about this movie sounds promising.

I watched this because I'm an Aaron Paul fan.
It's just okay overall.
It was quite predictable.

"Arrival" starring Amy Adams. A lot of effort went into making this movie. Amy Adams was terrific and it was totally her movie. But, sorry to say, I have to give it 4 "Freds." While plenty of people on the internet loved it and thought it had a lot to offer, a lot of people also thought it was too long, too slow-moving and, ultimately, boring. If you like to cogitate on the nature of language and non-linear time, you'll love this movie.

"Caf Society" written and directed by Woody Allen. A totally charming and engrossing movie that never flagged. An enchanting love story with a wonderful twist. Woody is a genius. I give it 10 "Freds."

Rings (2012)

I saw Rings at the afternoon matinee. In a nutshell, there's one insurmountable problem with this "horror" flick: Rings is not scary. Not a bit.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it 5%. No disagreement here.

Amen.

Dude! That is Bruce Campbell and he's a legend, I tellya (Evil Dead and Brisco). He's the reason why I tried to watch that movie, cause I had just read his autobiography (IF Chins Could Kill).

Maybe I will try again when I get old and can relate to the geriatric life.

This could have easily been another Rocky.
But I like where the director took this.
Amazing how this is a true story.

I'm sure the directors were hoping their clothing line with the alien circles would hit it big.
I think it fell short because it didn't really explain what we actually gained.

Weren't they trying to get all the countries in the world to work together because in the future they were going to need us to help them?

To be frank with you, movies like this go right over my head. I need more clarity in a script. (I saw "Pinocchio" and I couldn't figure out why his nose was growing! So I asked my mommy, "What disease causes that?" She replied, "Shut up, go fuck yourself! and finish your popcorn!") All the more reason I'll miss the IMDB message boards.

"Moonlight" [2016]

It's a story in 3 chapters. The lead character as a young boy, then as a teenager, and then, chapter 3, as a man. Chapter 3 was interminable. It killed the whole movie for me. And it was uncomfortable to watch -- poorly written, directed, and shot. Chapter 3 also, to me, is totally unbelievable.
