Thumbs up Happy Death Day (2017)

I saw Happy Death Day earlier this evenin'. Sufficiently enjoyable horror flick riding on a Groundhog Day theme (although GHD is a much better movie). Unless you enjoy the theatre experience, or just can't wait to see it, there is no absolutely no reason to pay retail to see it. Here's a link.

American Made (2017)

Saw this Tom Cruise flick today. It's alright. Based on a true story about Barry Seal, it kinda reminded me of "Blow".

First, there's no big screen viewing advantage, so save your bucks and watch it grasshoppa-style, i.e., free. Secondly, here's a wikipedia link on Barry Seal. Thirdly, here's a rotten tomato.

Amen.

Only The Brave (2017)

I normally don't have much interest in seeing "based on true events" movies, but I watched this. It's actually pretty good. Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly = really good cast, too. Andie McDowell was also in it, but just barely.

But, as is nearly always the case, there is no reason to pay retail to see this one, either. You'll enjoy it just fine, sitting at home in your recliner, watching it on your big screen TV.

Here's a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up Late Phases (2014)

I saw this yesterday on a subscription service. Had never heard of it. Ethan Embry is in it, although he's not the star. Nick Damici is, but I must say I'd never heard of him, nor do I recall him in anything I've seen previously.

That said, this is a pretty good old farts horror movie. Here's a link.

Thumbs down A Bad Moms Christmas (2017)

I saw ABMC tonight. I can only guess as to why it was sneak-peeked on Wednesday, rather than Thursday, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was because so many of the other movies of late (Suburbicon, mother!, etc.) have fared so shittily at the box office.

Though the cast is packed with recognizables such as Susan Sarandon, Christine Baranski, Peter Gallagher, ABMC is not very funny. If you must see it, do not pay money as I did. Rather, insist that the studio pay you, otherwise, you'll wait and watch it at home. Here's a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

I just got back from viewing this latest Marvel comic-to-screen flick. In 3D. Yeah. I splurged.

This is a better than average movie. It's intentionally humorous and it worked very well. That said, I don't think the 3D enhancement was worth the additional $2.50 specs rental. The cast is good, even though Mark Ruffalo is an insufferable gas bag IRL.

Here's a link.

Amen.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

Kevin is Tilda Swinton's evil kid, but her husband is blind and there are no concerned authorities.
Very well-made, but the story is basically about demonic possession. There are no better explanations here. 7.1/10

Killing Gunther (2017)

I rented and watched this earlier today, primarily on a friend's recommendation. She said it was hilarious. Well, I must respectfully disagree. It was just mostly silly and Taran Killam seemed to be in over his head with way too much screen time.

I you must watch it, do it grasshoppa-style, i.e., free. Here's a link.

Amen.

Not bad but it felt like the only thing this movie has is the introduction of Clint's daughter.
She's not a bad actress though.

Thumbs up Murder On The Orient Express (2017)

I saw this revisit of an old classic last night. Funny thing, I don't remember the original, which is perhaps just as well. This is a good flick and a well-crafted period piece. It has a blue-ribbon cast, but make no mistake about it - Kenneth Branagh, who also directed MOTOE, is the star and does the lion's share of the heavy story lifting.

Definitely worth a watch, but no need to pay retail. Here's a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up The Voices (2017)

I watched this on Netflix earlier today. I'd never heard of it, even though it stars Ryan Reynolds.

It's definitely a black comedy and definitely not for everybody. When you view it, hopefully you do so while on your way to a jolly place. If you are, be sure you're buckled in and say "hello" to Bosco and Mr. Whiskers for me.

Here's a link.

Big Boobies

On JEB's recommendation, I thought I'd go out on a limb and give this one a try...

Not bad, but I felt like the director could have done more in the directing department. At least the female actors were appropriately endowed.

Night of the Creeps (1986)

i watched this a little while ago. Essentially, its another twist on the zombie theme. It was nonsensical fun. Free. And I enjoyed it well enough. That said, I probably wouldve felt a bit differently had I paid retail.

Heres a link.
