Tiger House (2015)

I watched this joint South Africa/UK production this afternoon on Netflix. Not bad. It’s a home invasion flick. You’ll have to watch it to get the rest. Here’s a link.

Amen.

Black Panther (2018)

I saw Black Panther last night. It’s part of the Marvel Universe of comic book characters. As far as movies go, it’s juvenile in its delivery, although that’s not surprising, considering it began as a comic book. As for its merits as a movie, it’s alright. That said, it is getting a whole lotta love on Rotten T‘maters, but I didn’t see anything in it that would warrant urging others to pay retail to see it.

Here’s a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up Sleight (2017)

I just got through watching Sleight for free, thanks to a premium channel preview going on this weekend. This is a good movie, in fact, I enjoyed it much more than Black Panther, which I saw Thursday evening at retail. I didn’t recognize any of the nearly all black cast. There are a few token caucasians, none of whom I recognized, either. Regardless, the cast excels.

Here’s a link.

Amen.

Being There (1971)

It was on TCM and I've never seen a more ridiculous movie in my life. That the protagonist, who is a total illiterate, would fool the President of the United States, as well as a billionaire business tycoon, into thinking that he was a brilliant thinker, defies credulity. A movie of this sort has to have some believability to it, and this one has none. I cannot believe that anyone liked this movie and many people did.

Annihilation (2018)

I saw this Natalie Portman showcase earlier this evening. The critics like it a lot. Guess I’m not a critic. This flick isn’t awful, but it fails to satisfy. If you must see it, do not pay retail. Here’s a link.

Amen.

I much rather read reviews of people who aren't professional critics.

I never knew you took such interest in reading reviews of people. I haven't come across many reviews of professional critics, myself.

Good catch, plum! ☺ I should have written "...reviews written by people who aren't professional critics..."

Language IS important, as you so correctly point out.

In this instance, please allow me to blame the Dickel.

I wasn't trying to be snobbish about your grammar. Just my lame attempt at humor. re: Dickel, I only ever tried American whiskey twice, roughly 20 years ago. One bottle of Jim Beam and one of Jack Daniels (admittedly haven't tried Dickel). Both were so horrible that I never so much as tasted American whiskey since.

Just makes one wonder why a nation that built the atom bomb and put men on the moon never figured out how to make whiskey...

Red Sparrow (2018)

Well, I went, I sat, I watched. This latest Jennifer Lawrence showcase features brief, almost full frontal knuditty by the girl from Kentucky who now apparently thinks her success has bestowed her with wisdom and insight well beyond her years.

RS is actually pretty good, though a bit too long. Unless you must see it RIGHT FUCKIN’ NOW!, there is not any reason to pay retail to see this. Here’s a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up Death Wish (2018)

I watched this Eli Roth redux of Death Wish. Starring Bruce Willis, it did not disappoint, despite the super low RT critics score. Interestingly, the RT audience score is a virtual flip of the critics. I have learned long ago that the RT audience score is much more in line with my views of a flick, than that of the critics.

If you enjoy revenge/payback movies (I certainly do), then you’ll like DW. Here’s a link.

Amen.

Thumbs up The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)

I watched this cheap, little horror flick earlier this evening. The original was back in 2008 and I barely remember it. Of course, I’m an old fart. And that may also explain why I enjoyed it, even though it’s nothing special.

It follows a well-worn recipe for horror flicks. Specificaly, numbskulls and peabrains make lotsa really stupid decisions to help insure the assholes can fuck ‘em up. Here’s a link.

Oh. Definitely no need to pay retail to see this. Watch it at home. Late at night. Lights out. Scarier that way.

Amen.

Thumbs up The Hurricane Heist (2018)

The critics didn’t give THH any love, so I watched it. And, I was not surprised that THH turned out to be good flick. I’d call it a disaster movie with a plot.

But, as is nearly always the case, I recommend waiting until you can watch it grasshoppa-style on your big screen at home. Here’s a link.

Amen.
