Slipknot ~ Duality

I don't listen to much Slipknot, but I've liked this one for quite a while. I think it's really playful, in a musician sort o' way:

Amen.

Not too different from their previous album, nor as immediate, but I think it's a grower. It also feels a bit more consistent in that it doesn't lose momentum 3/4 of the way through like their other 2 albums.

new Spiritualized track including crappy album cover. I like the track, but I don't really like Jason's vocals. The vocals were fairly weak on the last album as well.

sounds like the studio portion of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma mixed with Popol Vuh, Ash Ra Tempel, etc.

their first album with (former?) Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. This album feels less fractured than their previous releases, yet I really don't care for the singer's Colin Newman-by-way-of-Thurston Moore vocals. Otherwise good music is marred by unremarkable vocals that don't vary at all in their approach. I feel like I should like them a lot more than I really do.

I think I like this the best of all their releases. "Nowhere" was always kind of over-rated to me, even if it had some great songs.

It took me some time to get into the new Alcest, since not much is different from the last one, but I'm there now.

I quite like the new Alcest. I think they/he gets better with each album. Though I keep seeing otherwise positive reviews for it expressing disappointment...

new Les Discrets is fairly disappointing though.

a mixture of older tracks cut up and blended together with new(?) tracks akin to Faust's "Faust Tapes" album.

everyone loves Lift yr Skinny Fists, but I think this one is just as good, yet everyone seems to overlook it.

Like all their albums, it needed a little bit of editing, but I like this album more than I thought I would.

this is actually AR Kane, who made up 2/5 of MARRS (Pump Up the Volume)

early My Bloody Valentine isn't bad, but it's insane how much better they got once Dave Conway left. Even the not-that-different Ecstasy and Wine period is a huge leap in quality.
