You know it'ss getting crucial when a grown man swears "Fuck this shit; I'm going back to Eritrea!"

It's sobering to realize that even one's really smart and aware friends overseas are still largely working off of a TV script version of what's going on, here.

Hint for the honkies overseas: those fat folks in hilarious Wal Mart posters are not fat because they are so rich; they live in rat's nests and they have been told they are lucky for it their wholllle lives. You would fare no better here; your noble grandma is no different; your people are the same. You just have fewer places to hide, more work to do, and thus less TV programming. Hmm I'm getting mixed signals from you on this.

Maybe you're mistaking my not liking fallacy / errant generalizations for specific qualms with your content? Sort of like when I point out that reds are full of shit on this or that anti-Obama hilarity & they immediately think "fucking hippy faggot ACLU bitch wants to take mah guns aways"

its just about being on-target.

I've chuckled at plenty of snide 'USA sucks' posts from you and others - it's the off-target snipes that I'm prone to rail against. For instance: your people are as retarded and useless as mine or any other sampling; you simply have been dealt a different logistical hand and are surrounded by a different sort of barriers. Since your owner-nation's programs don't allow people to slip as low as mine's does, it is understandable and even forgivable that you might accidentally view your half-wit conspecifics as being somehow of greater quality than mine. I suggest that's just an error in sampling.

Sadly, gun-enhanced trogs will probably win in nature's contest - sensitive well-read trogs may win in the Conclave of the Angels hereafter - the survivors of the "who is better" wars will not be determined by nationality nor by ethical merit, I suspect…

I'm talking specifically about the construction of the American society, not the people in it (but maybe their lack of resistance to the construction). Hell, I like most merkins on this here board (they obviously influence my language) and I guess that speaks pretty well for the rest of the inhabitants.
But, I often see two Americans here agreeing on things in America being bad or much worse than they seem and they will agree until some European joins to help that narrative along - then it's suddenly 'USA is better than you think' etc.

It's a kneejerk reaction. Consider the way the brits are known to look down their nose at anything that is "Decidedly not British." Americans are a bit the same after our own fashion. While the place may be a flaming pile of shit in some ways, it's our pile of shit, thank you very much.

Irrational? Yes. But totally to be expected by a once proud people.

Heh. There's no need for all that.

I do wish I could get it in stores here locally without having to resort to mail order. That's a bit of a pain.
I also wish the chocolate here was better. The frog you sent ruined me on Hersheys. It has never tasted as good since.

I'd like to step on a limb and say your diet is lacking in Iron / Magnesium , making your body over metabolize. Organ meats are cheap and full of both. Eat them with strong raw greens like Kale, and avoid spicy foods or anything with capsaicin.

I agree I do have a vitamin deficiency, no doubt. That's being dealt with.

However, what's the rational behind no hot sauce? I love the stuff and the idea of skipping it gives me a sad.

capsaicin increases the bodies metabolism, making you burn needed food sources faster than you use them. It's why you feel hot and sweaty when eating them your body is acting to what is it thinks is a poison.

Agree. But it works the other way around too. For example if two Danes stand around laughing at Americans like I do here, I have to go 'you know they're not all that bad. It's just that the news love republicans' etc.

That all depends what particular news channel happens to be on the TV ATM. Good cop, bad cop, and all that. It's all a game. A shitty, shitty game by the PTB.

Not bad advice.

For someone who does not feel deeply obligated and responsible to be there to take care of family members dependent upon them.

I mostly agree; if you lived here, though, you'd realize the problems with "resistance" and guffaw bitterly at anyone suggesting a lack -

if anything there is far too much unfocused resistance to just any fucking thing you can bring up -

but, surely, when you blanket-denigrate folks, you should go ahead and expect them to clan up and circle the wagons. We hate each other marginally less than we hate everyone else. It's God's plan.

Really it's just the televised version of Americans that sticks get shaken at. It's very, very rare to see any accurate portraits outside of suburban white cul de sacs. The writers simply dont know anything else. TV that hints at reality is presentable only on cable and / or with massive ladles of drippy narrative that explain or eulogize reality through some kind of moral filtration - Walter breaks bad because of lung cancer instead of testosterone; the faggot on Glee is cool because he's plucky and can kick a field goal, clean cut and small = nonthreatening; so on.

Vast tracts of USAans simply don't make for good TV. They are not presentable. David Lynch would do it, just to be an asshole - few others would ever bother. Writers for TV are not going to hang out with seven Pinecrickas and learn about bow hunting safety while dangerously drunk. Sitting alone in a crafts shop in North Carolina for an entire week cannot be forced to have meaning. Rent in Manhattan is prohibitive to ANY of the characters commonly shown to live there in fiction. San Francisco is placid. Crime in Chinatown amounts to overpriced stolen bamboo hats. The story here won't be tellable for twenty years; that's how it works - and no one telling it then will know all the angles.

USA is more than one country, is the thing, I guess. The DS alone is five distinct nations that all hate each other -

until some yankee asshat comes around talking smack about rednecks, then it's circle the wagons and pass the ammo.

What do you want, logical reasoned argument? Go bother the German (and figure that stereotype out).

The only place fregans could successfully operate is in a city or town of sufficient sizr to support multiple grocery stores and restaraunts. Tefl lives in town you could skate board through in under a minute, powered by cabbage farts.

speaking as a guy who has spent the last 30 years pilfering unguarded crops from rural gardens and fields for personal consumption I am unimpressed by freegans who never have to fight off deer to get the best persimmons, muscadine grapes or watermelons.

helpful hint: a wild eyed heffer let out of the right gate and coaxed into a backyard garden can cover up a world of sin and vegetable stealing.

Yep, there's a lot of food out there. I'm not impressed by freegans, either, although to each his or her own I suppose.

Especially if one lives in a rural area, though, why eat garbage? There are many tasty and nutritious edibles growing wild (LF, wild means FREE!) if you know what to look for, when to look, and how to prepare it. You mentioned persimmons. They'll be ready in a few weeks. Yeah, deer love 'em, but the trick for me is to beat 'em to it and ripen them myself. I'll bet you've got abundant supplies of jerusalem artichoke in your neck of the woods, too. Poke salad (sallet) is an excellent green when prepared properly; I cut the young top leaves in the early spring. Most people don't know acorns are edible, but like poke, you have to know how to prepare them. I could go on and on and on.

TEFL? It goes without saying that those wild delicacies won't walk into your kitchen. You've gotta go get 'em.

Amen.

Do you have any idea just how much poke I've consumed in my life? More than I like to admit. (I don't suggest eating too much at a sitting. It can be a laxative that will clean you out like a hose if you overdo it.)
I'm spreading the seeds around the property to come up wild next year. It's amazing just how many seeds are contained in a single berry. You have to wait until they are good and dried to break them up or you will have a mess on your hands. (Literally. The juice was once used to make ink.)

As I've said before, vegetables are not so much the problem. Meat is the big ticket pain in my ass. And the quality of the meat as well. At the lower end of the the selection is some low nutrient garbage. As prices rise even more people will begin to realise the severity of this.

I'm looking hard into the idea of getting some chickens and rabbits. They reproduce at a high rate, are easily caged and tended to, and the upkeep on them isn't that bad. Such are technically against the law here in town but they can kiss my ass. Stupid laws get in the way of people's lives and are best broken at each and every opportunity.

It's beginning to look as if the prepper/survivalist mentality isn't so far out there as once believed by most. I forsee it becoming more and more a thing for many as time progresses.
