Joining a cult

So I talked with a friend of mine today who decided that free masonry was a cult that he left. He said that he is convinced they support bad things (examples included the mafia being the head of a lodge, encouraging sexual deviance, ritualism). He believes that they take away all that is yours and make it all about the masons... and went so far as to say he former profession offered success based on the fact that he was a Mason rather than merit.

Now, I always thought a secret society is a little sketchy, but I fully believed that masons simply supported one another.

I really don't know what to think. In the same conversation he showed signs of delusions though, so part of me is wondering if his experiences were actually real.

Any of you have experience or knowledge beyond this?

Yeah... I am definitely not sure he is ok. He said weed makes him weird but I have never heard anything like this... A lot of talk about God and hell. Some kind of delusion about being in a computer system that others can hack into (very sci-fi matrix stuff)... unable to connect with people....reckless behaviour... I suggested professional help and possibly meds but he did not sound very keen. The kicker is he is really fucking smart. Wondering if some of the wires are crossed up there.

i've known masons and was offered to join the local lodge a few years ago. the idea that they're up to nefarious and devious schemes is insanely absurd. there's a semi-famous conspiracy nut who lives here and this is what he has to say about freemasonry.

Alright.. well he seems pretty convinced of his beliefs regardless, so he has his own reality. I tried challenging a couple of his thought processes and he was quick to want to change the subject or tune me out. I am a weirdo magnet. What can I say?

I like to help people. Today he seems to have calmed down. He believes his delusions are strictly influenced by drugs, yet some of it, he has admitted, is still lingering. I am used to anxiety and depression, but delusions are kinda new to me. I mean, the radio does not talk to me. You know? I am not sure if I should run or be supportive.
