Clearly I need help in figuring out what to say in a first message, ladies?

Yes. Lady-whisperer here. Don't say hiya. Don't start sentences with so. Don't say you skipped some parts about her. Don't misunderstand something as funny when it isn't. Explain why you are into the bee mask (knowing she might hate it but has to have it around because of unknown obligations). Don't say you're 'pretty nerdy'.

I'm only writing here because cruncle and olaf also gave you advice and it wouldn't be hard to improve on that.

Garrett, if you took it more serious you may find that you meet someone you enjoy. Not saying don't be silly and yourself. Brown girl had it pretty spot on. Talk about mutual interests, it breaks the ice. Don't bombard her with stuff like " so why did you join a dating site " it may embarass her. Maybe goof off about some of the profiles you have seen and how you were pleased to come across hers. It complements her in the process, that is always nice.

I think girls who use dating sites may be somewhat insecure, not sure if this is true of guys, I think for them its just more convenience as they are lazy. With that said, make sure you complement her. Take it a bit old fashioned, tell her she looks nice, kiss her cheek when you guys leave for the evening. Sit closer but not right next to her and have fun. I think you will know within the first 10 minutes of the date if you tow are hitting it off, it is usually pretty obvious, that is unless you are socially awkward.

I don't think any of us could give you real advice other than just be yourself. Like I said, the worst thing I hated when I used to date was a guy who was TOO funny. I enjoy quirky, I enjoy nerds, I enjoy random, but someone who is constantly cracking jokes and not being serious is annoying to me. I enjoy serious conversation, so try to have a mix of both on your dates. ( not that you aren't)

You may never find someone from the internet, every guy I ever met/dated from the net ended up being a fkn loser, psycho, a cheater or liar. It never worked out. I still say you should meet someone from social networks IN REAL LIFE.

Oh, men who have kids are deal breakers for a lot of younger girls these days, maybe leave that out until date #2 unless she has a kid herself. If shes got a few at your age and single.. run!

If you know yourself, you'd know exactly what you want and how to get it. You're still young Garrett. I wouldn't suggest a dating site at your age.Hell,I wouldn't suggest one at my age.You need to get out and socialize.

I agree corny is no! I had a guy I dated wayyy back when i was like 19 who ALWAYS made Austin Powers jokes. When I say always, it was repeated. We would go out for the night and I swear he would quote the movie at least 10 times. It just got really freaking annoying. So, I stopped seeing him. We still remain friends to this day though, and he STILL makes Austin Powers jokes the second we speak, no joke.

Yeah, the whole 'I'm so clever I'll quote movies' thing is a deal breaker with me too.Originality is key.

You can't tell the boy he's too young honestly. It's got nothing to do with age with Garrett. He may have been born in the early 90's, but he seems to have experienced more in life than any 23 year old here in Malaysia has in all their lifetime. For one, he has a daughter and was married. How do you think ANY girl his age is going to act on this information alone?

It's a hit and run, Garrett. If you actually meet a girl you connect with online, on OKcupid or in a bar randomly, just know that she's in it because there was something about you that sparked her interest and she wants to know more. Stick to that too. You're sweet and charming as far as I can tell. Stay that way. And you know, if it doesn't happen on OKcupid, or on some other online dating site, then it wasn't meant to and the right person, will eventually fall out of nowhere.

Nope, it's not a fairy tale, apparently it really does happen. And if you believe in the relationship fairy, it's probably not happening now, because maybeeeeee, or perhaps, it's just not your time to actually commit into something so serious just yet.

Chill out and enjoy what life has to offer you for now. You'll most likely find, you've actually been missing out on quite a bit.

You're a good guy, Garrett.

What are "social networks in real life"?

Also, It is a lot harder to find chicks my age that haven't shit out 2 or more kids than I thought it would be.

I am a bit of an empath, so if I am around someone who is down and shitty all the time my emotional state tends to mimic that, so I would prefer someone who is optimistic and generally upbeat.

I mean like through friends and such. Honestly though some of my closest friends have met their partners online and they are extremely happy. I am actually pleased you are giving online dating a try, shows you are up for anything.

I don't think any of us can really give you the proper advice you need, you need to just do what you think is right and be yourself. You will find someone, you are super young, have fun while you can!

I would say not quite. By all means be yourself, but you've also got to put that advertising billboard up. Put yourself out there, make an effort and then you'll throw more mud at the windmill.

Also, move to South London. There's tonnes of unmarried single young twenty something mothers.

They're you only with bewbs.

Billboards cost a lot of money, I mean that seems like it would drive people away, I don't know about that one.
