Of course I am racist. It goes with being human. Like alcoholism and various other socially undesirable thought patterns and behaviors, before you can even begin to correct for it you have to recognize it in yourself.

You deny it, which makes you willfully racist.

Most USAans can't really grasp full blown racism. We're too kindly as a people. The hyperspecificity and frank genocidal views of our global conspecifics are beyond the powers of most USA folks. Once the Hitler effect wears the rest of the way off and increasing cross fertilization on the internet socializes us more fully, I'm sure we'll catch up.

Were the lynchings real? I'm not sure anymore.
Btw, I hear Saudi Arabia is THE place to go for racism.

Oh yeah; shitloads of lynching. But that sort of thing is hardly unique to the USA.

I've always liked the Huron/Iroquois method of tying a captive to a sapling surrounded by a ring of spikes - in the daytime, little children gather around and bat at you with switches so that you bounce around and get slashed by spikes. In the evening, the old ladies come out and heal your wounds so that you're fresher for tomorrow's games. Toppling the wall on a dude always seemed pretty hardcore to me, also. And good old stoning: jeeeez

Yes, they were. Lynchings were vigilante justice. In that regard, the Danes remain the most brutally savage dispensers of vigilante justice the world has ever witnessed.

Naaah. No anxiety whatsoever to that fact. It's the denial, or perversion, of the abundant other facts that used to get stuck in my craw. That is, until I realized that it's all about you, Coin. Just ask Eva Chan:

"I am an Asian-American who lived in Denmark for two and a half years. The first time I heard people saying (in reaction to learning that I can speak Chinese): »ching chong, ching chong, etc…« to my face, I thought that I had been transported to the Twilight Zone or some distant elementary school playground.

Sadly, I was amongst so-called educated Danes. The excuse for the behaviour was to chalk it up to Danish humour and not racism. ...

... Anyway, Denmark is a total mess when it comes to race relations. They have not come to terms with what it means to live in an increasingly heterogeneous society. This homogenous society started letting people into the country before it had decided if it even wanted to become heterogeneous. ...
" From here.

Amen.

You do seem pretty anxious about this. Maybe both Denmark and USA are racist?
Also you seem to equal individuals with nation states. That's not very healthy, but is sure to get the old blood boiling.

It looks like you're tired of being called racist and is eager to point out that racism is everywhere.

i hardly think jeb would be alone, if, in fact, he were equating the acts of individuals or groups of individuals with the entirety of a nation state.... or for that matter, regions of a nation state.

or if you wanted to extend the example, members of a race, creed, political party, gender or sexuality.

18 September 2013:

"A Danish-Iranian artist was found guilty of racism by the Western High Court on Monday for statements she made about Muslim men.

Firoozeh Bazrafkan was charged with racism after writing in a blog entry, published in Jyllands-Posten newspaper in December 2011, that she was "very convinced that Muslim men around the world rape, abuse and kill their daughters". ...
" From here.

More here.

The verdict was decided by a panel of three judges and three jurors. Five of the six decided that section 266b of the penal code applied, as her message in the blog was that Muslim men in general commit severe crime.

“By publishing the statement in the blog, the defendant presented statements in which a group of people* are mocked and degraded because of their belief," the Western High Court stated in its verdict. "We therefore find the defendant guilty."

I'm confused.

She was convicted to racism, but 'Muslim'* is not a race. Did I miss something?

I can't speak for Denmark but in Iran, Spain, England, Africa, and Vienna I encountered racism that blew my mind - not as an anecdotal "this one guy said heinous shit" thing but as a deeply dyed cultural institution. The most extreme was in Africa. The least racist general attitude in any country I've had personal experience with is no longer pertinent, because Israel bombed the shit out of it and now they're probably far more racist than before. That's one of the many things that happens to people when rendered barbarous and / or idle: they become stupid and afraid, which forms the core of racist inclinations (I find).

Regardless of one's wishes or beliefs, actual heterogeneity in a given society makes deep racism impossible in all but the very most terrified a/o cretinous individuals. Exposure to the startling reality that "racial" divides in human groups are artificial constructs generates dissonance in the racist mind. I've seen it at every stage of the effect, having grown up in the deep south through the 70s and 80s, watching mom's drinking buddies little minds cope with the death of old lies right before their eyes.

It works the other way, too, though, and that's been difficult for me to really get a hold of. I see the point of color segregation on a biological and sociological level and I'm not interested in mandating integration nor even intercolor goodwill. There's value in all kinds of cultures, including ones that freak me out or that I don't ever want to be part of (like the gay toe cannibals of canada n'shit). It offers our species immunological robustness (if you will) for there to be diverse cultures. Colorism is a part of the human catalog - like other freaky and dangerous aspects of our species' adaptations, it would probably be a mistake to try to stamp it out or pretend it isn't natural. The key we've got to find is how to not be stupid about it, as a kind of mark of civilization.

Nothing could prepare a garden variety USA klansman for African-level racism. It's just beyond the ken of most people, in general, really. As a Chinese friend of mine put it "jeez I hate a motherfucker too but that's just rude" (muttered as we scanned execution videos for a relief-fund project; they were chopping off kids' arms to demonstrate what would befall anyone unwilling to kill their own "racially inferior" family friends & neighbors).

I'm not saying people in the US *can't* be as racist as any other arbitrarily defined group - just that we aren't there right now - it's not a mark of character; it's the result of conditions and recent history. As noted before, it's changing and we're coming along just fine. I, for one, support the growing animus toward Iran because I would personally like it if a lot of their men were killed off and a lot of their women fled here for sanctuary. It calms me to admit to my baser nature, and to embrace the truth of it. It allows me to behave as if I am the better person I'd be if I could author my own biological identity.

But I doubt it will be a "racial" divide that destroys the last of the USA civic corps - it will be redness vs blueness that does us in, tricking us into squabbling amongst each other when we ought to be staging an overthrow of the illegal cartel that seized our government in the fucking 60s. Tra, la.

When is Something Racist? When the Left Says It Is

Cher, maybe it depends upon who you ask:

10 January 2012:

"In a short piece in the Culture Monster section of the Los Angeles Times, Christopher Knight decries a satirical depiction of the First Lady based on a 1775 portrait of famed French lover of luxury, Marie Antoinette. The image replaces Maries face with Mrs. Obamas, and the young queens puffy-sleeved left arm with a bare muscular black arm clearly a poke at Mrs. Obamas penchant for going sleeveless to show off her buffed guns. Her right hand points to a spot on a world globe, and the image caption reads Choosing the next vacation.

Obviously a pointed commentary on Michelle Obamas high-end wardrobe and frequent lavish getaways such as a glitzy Spanish jaunt and her familys recent $4 million, 17-day trip to Hawaii, right? If you think so, then youre not getting the pics overt racism, according to Christopher Knight, and youre probably racist yourself for laughing at it, according to the left.

In his article entitled Racist image of Michelle Obama based on Versailles painting, Knight begins by claiming that the image is baldly racist, though he doesnt explain how except to state that the caricature of Obama as a profligate queen relies on the racist stereotype of an uppity Negro.

Wrong. The caricature of Mrs. Obama as a profligate queen relies entirely on her documented behavior as one. Knight doesnt address this issue at all, and he utterly ignores the images caption and its obvious accusation of the Obamas hypocrisy in wanting to impose income redistribution upon the rest of us while luxuriating in the champagne wishes and caviar dreams of their lifestyles of the rich and famous. ...

Amen.
