I still say dipping your wick will help some. CBT is good for all kinds of stuff. Been utilising that myself this year.

Acupuncture? Well I can believe that it may work. Friend of mine went into a TCM shop with a bad back. The old guy there manipulated his back for 20 mintutes and cured it. Nothing the doc had done worked.

Didn't charge him either.

As an admitted teetotaler, I'd say your understanding of alcohol and its power is limited.

Perhaps.

I grew up surrounded by alcohol and alcoholics, which is why I decided to sharply curtail my own intake. A teetotaler I am not - a predisposition toward alcoholism and other addictive behaviors runs rampant in my family, which is why I decided very young that I had to be careful with such things.

I have worked with those dealing with the consequences of the behaviors that the loss of inhibitions during drunkenness brought, including quite lengthy prison sentences. I am of the opinion that I am well aware of the effects of alcohol and its power. Like an electrician, I have no need to grasp a bare 400 kV power line to know it can fry me.

You're right. I'm not one of those people with some kind of superiority complex with regards to drugs (thank goodness). You know, the ones that claim some deep wisdom exclusive only to those who indulge...

I'm well aware that there are many substances that give one the delusion of higher consciousness, but which in fact are like a poison for the mind. (But oh, the delusion is so much fun!) Nary a great scientist or artist was a tweaker/ junkie/ drunk.

One possible exception to this would be DMT, which I have yet to try.

I personally want some DMT. But DK is only about pot/hashish. Ask for mushrooms at Christiania and they all go 'but they made that stuff illegal, dude.' Er ok.

DMT would knock you on your ass.

Seriously.

quote:
Several speculative and yet untested hypotheses suggest that endogenous DMT is produced in the human brain and is involved in certain psychological and neurological states. DMT is naturally occurring in small amounts in rat brain, human cerebrospinal fluid, and other tissues of humans and other mammals.[28][51][52][102]

A biochemical mechanism for this was proposed by the medical researcher J. C. Callaway, who suggested in 1988 that DMT might be connected with visual dream phenomena: brain DMT levels would be periodically elevated to induce visual dreaming and possibly other natural states of mind.[103] A new hypothesis proposed is that in addition to being involved in altered states of consciousness, endogenous DMT may be involved in the creation of normal waking states of consciousness. It is proposed that DMT and other endogenous hallucinogens mediate their neurological abilities by acting as neurotransmitters at a sub class of the trace amine receptors; a group of receptors found in the CNS where DMT and other hallucinogens have been shown to have activity.

Wallach further proposes that in this way waking consciousness can be thought of as a controlled psychedelic experience. It is when the control of these systems becomes loosened and their behavior no longer correlates with the external world that the altered states arise.[84] Dr. Rick Strassman, while conducting DMT research in the 1990s at the University of New Mexico, advanced the controversial hypothesis that a massive release of DMT from the pineal gland prior to death or near death was the cause of the near death experience (NDE) phenomenon. Several of his test subjects reported NDE-like audio or visual hallucinations. His explanation for this was the possible lack of panic involved in the clinical setting and possible dosage differences between those administered and those encountered in actual NDE cases. Several subjects also reported contact with 'other beings', alien like, insectoid or reptilian in nature, in highly advanced technological environments[13] where the subjects were 'carried,' 'probed,' 'tested,' 'manipulated,' 'dismembered,' 'taught,' 'loved,' and even 'raped' by these 'beings.' Basing his reasoning on his belief that all the enzymatic material needed to produce DMT is found in the pineal gland (see evidence in mammals), and moreover in substantially greater concentrations than in any other part of the body, Strassman ([13] p. 69) has speculated that DMT is made in the pineal gland. Currently there is no published reliable scientific evidence supporting this hypothesis.

DMT could be the stuff of consciousness itself.

I read a LOT about DMT. And I heard McKenna talk about it. That's why I want some. But yes, it's in there somewhere.

It's *fantastic*. Seriously. It's the one thing I would suggest to my grandmother. Everyone should do it.

Well…… basically, you have to come over. So far Tex Critter and Sooki are the two inmates to brave the encounter, and neither of them did any DMT at all. So, there's some left.

Everyone's afraid of it until after the first try - then they're sad that the tolerance curve is so high.

It's everything you thought LSD would be except you can easily go to sleep.

Funniest DMT quote so far:

"…………GIGGLE now I understand a bunch of art [drool]" and this guy is a croatian gangster who scares russian gangsters

I think it was on Rogan they said that mushrooms are ten times pot, and DMT is ten times mushrooms plus aliens.

I hear DMT is also a regular spammer.

Amen.
