Gun Control

The second amendment of the United States Constitution states:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Obviously the need for a state militia has been replaced by the National
Guard and Coast Guard whereby trained military personnel are entrusted with
the defense of this country against domestic enemies. Their weapons are
tightly controlled and safeguarded.

The only two reasons for a citizen to own a firearm are for hunting or
defense of the household from intruders. In either case, ownership of a
handgun, shotgun or rifle is more than adequate to satisfy these purposes.
There is absolutely no need for any U.S. civilian to own any weapon more
powerful or sophisticated than these.

Accordingly, all handguns, shotguns and rifles must be licensed and
registered to the degree necessary to match weapon to owner at the click
of a computer key. Furthermore, we must guarantee that the mentally ill
do not gain access to them under any circumstances. Finally, if we had
prohibited the purchase of more sophisticated weapons several innocent
victims would not have died or been harmed at shopping malls, college
campuses, Congressional meetings, churches and now concerts. We as
a country must deal with this issue immediately lest our society fall back
to the days when everyone carried a holster.

Well, Joe, a couple of points come immediately to mind in response. First, if you are going to quote the 2nd amendment, quote it correctly. Specifically, as written, passed by Congress, and ratified by the states it contains one (and only one) comma. Located between the words "State, the", which changes the meaning and significance of the sentence quite a lot. Sescondly, gun registration laws are state issues, not federal, and forced registration is not likely to fly outside the east and west coasts

Every American over 18 should be required to carry a loaded handgun at all times. And possibly a hand grenade.

I'd argue that the sheer ubiquity of gun technology renders all previous arguments moot.

A determined person with internet access and a 3D printer can manufacture his/her own guns.

A law should be passed forcing every American to be wearing bullet-proof clothes. Pajamas excluded.

Why can't I reply, plumbster? You are a censorship faggot who is scared like a girl at the idea of an armed society.

It is a patriotic duty to carry. How are we still discussing this?

Freedom costs life, nothing new here.

we can make guns in the UK too

massive fucking effort though so only the really determined try

it is clear to anyone that easy availability of serious hardware makes any incident like the recent one alot worse than it would have had matey been using plastic guns he had made at home. which probably would have ended when one misfired and blew his hand off

btw i am fully in support of owning and using any sort of weapon, cos i hate interventionalism. I really am a fan of just letting things go whichever way they go

i do think it is sad that people are intentionally blind to the consequences of having such laws though

"Blind"? Some may be blind to the consequences, but a great many see quite clearly the consequences of allowing the interventionist laws urged by the propagandists for government power over individual lives. Certainly they see clearly, and accept, the consequences of freedom to own firearms.

Just like they accept the possible consequences of flying on an airliner, which when a nutter gets control, kills hundreds to thousands. Like the suicidal guy who flew one into the ground intentionally about three years ago, or the islamic crazies who flew three of them into buildings 16 years ago. Not to mention the accident death tolls from errors, failures, and other events.

People die, and very frequently do so as the result of some stupidity of their own or of others. Get used to it - human death is no more a tragedy than is that of any other creature.

I love Simon's angry certainty. We don't need to discuss this, peasants.

An armed society is the end goal of humanity and USA is leading the way.

Don't ban guns. Just force everyone to wear bullet-proof clothing....and hats. Pajamas optional.

If you make carrying a gun mandatory, you don't have to force anyone to bullet-proof clothing. They will do this out of free will.

Poor Americans. You're so dumb now you don't understand the concept of action and reaction.

It's astonishing how ignorant so many leftist Americans are about the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. The national guard answers to the Commander in Chief at the end of the day. The founders included the 2nd Amendment to allow the People to form a force to defend Americans against a rogue governnent. To do this a substantial number of citizens must be arm with weapons as advanced as those issued to our government's infantry.

The Liberals can distort what the Constitution all they want, but its language is clear. In the case of the 2nd Amendment is concerned the drafters of our Constitution used the word 'infringe". The only reason they would do so is because they were students of history and knew that tyrannies grow from a gradually disarmed people.

Our 2nd Amendment rights have been infringed many times to date. In fact, any law that infringes in any in any way upon a US citizen's TC see
