Fuck it all. I am keto effective yesterday eve.

So, after I cancelled my wedding, I gained weight. Then I gained more when I disliked my workplace... After I got my depression under control, I got slammed with a very shitty end to a relationship and my dad dying. But, finally things are looking up. So, after gaining a cool 80 lbs in 5 years I finally had it. I am gonna keto a bit, hope I keep my already pitiful excuse for muscle.

I have been reading up on it (or Atkins, phase 1 if you prefer). I think it may be a good option for a few months to help me get to a place where I can support my own weight and go to the gym again. Already lost 5 lbs of water!

I have done lots of other diet fads, and have even failed at this one before, but I just cannot seem to kick my sugar habit I developed. What better way to deal than stress out your kidneys?! Amiright or amiright? Anyway, to keep me motivated i may share some meals as I go.

Today coconut chips were breakfast. Lunch was a half can of tuna with mayo and hot pepper sauce, dinner was salmon steak with zucchini. I basically poached it with a water-oil, ceasar dressing, dill and lemon. It was so good. I never cook fish so I am stoked!

I can tell you two things from experience. First, keto can be very effective if you hang in there and stick with it. Second, the rebound from quitting keto can be worse than when you started.

Good luck!

Hey, Jinxy. Glad you’re feeling better, but I couldn’t help but be curious. Was wedding guy and shitty relationship dude the same fella? Or, was shitty dude a rebounder?

Amen.

No, different folk. First one was finance sketchy momma's boy, which is (in my mind) a terrible way to start a relationship... Second one was hacker ex who was cyberstalking me. I hope he lands himself in jail one day soon. Anyway, been stick picking and been slightly above med ketone levels. 12 lbs gone, of which a ton are water weight.

I had one and a half days of keto flu. I was already feeling kind of shitty and took vitamins on an empty stomach, which I promptly threw up after. So far I feel fine. Been eating pretty delicious things, though today I tried baking keto two bite cupcakes... dark chocolate with raspberry cream filling. They taste pretty shitty, as the fake sugar is pretty gross. Overall, though, I cannot complain. I have not been hungry at all (what the fuck magic is this?!?) And have had a bit more energy to do stuff. Been discovering new food too. Used to think collard greens were only for my ex's pet uromastyx (sp?) But they are ok with a touch of butter. Also been having a good deal of asparagus, chayote (my new version of apple - I actually like it raw, though it is delicious cooked too)... and mushrooms, spinach, artichoke... instead of two huge coffees, I have taken to one generous espresso with a tablespoon and a half of whipping cream. I also learned that dark chocolate fits on this here eating plan, and I have at least a half of an avocado a day. Learned that I make a mean dry rub for ribs too. Did I mention cheese? Yeah... cheese and eggs. It is so foreign to me to be allowed to eat rich food. I have gone through about 1/2 a pack of bacon, for the record. I know when I transition back into a carb diet I will probably gain a bit. Thing is, I will probably be waaay more inclined to exercise. At the moment, it is literally hard to speed walk for more than a half hour or stand for more than 5.

Today was a weird food day. I have used up my carbs so meat and cheese tonight... and light jello. I had my usual espresso and cream, three avocados with pancetta, 10 meatballs with blue cheese and mayo, and roughly 3 oz of stevia sweetened 100%baker's chocolate... and a squirt of oil because my fat macros =low. I could go for carrots. Carrots sound good. I binged on my mini chocolate things yesterday, but my weight is constant and still in moderate range according to picking on a stick.

If caloric intake (a) is less than calories burned (b) you will experience weight loss (c).

IF a < b THEN c

It's really that simple. Follow this formula and it doesn't matter what you eat, only how much.

For an otherwise healthy individual, you are correct. If there are hormone imbalances, it's not that simple.

I’ll never forget years ago when one of my friends was talking about his wife, Darlene. She looked like somebody had blown her up with an air hose, having packed on over 120 lbs. since their marriage a few years earlier.

“She eats like a bird,” he said, slowly shaking his head. “But, she keeps getting bigger and bigger.”

“What do you think the problem is, Jim?” I asked.

“It’s her hormones, man. They’re outta whack and nothing she’s tried works. And believe me, she’s tried everything. It’s so bad, she could be on a diet of just water and celery and she’d continue to grow,” he replied with sad resignation.

Two days later, I went to the grocery store after work to pick up some things. As I walked back out carrying my sack of groceries, I saw a parked car. Darlene was behind the wheel, next to some big sacks of groceries in the passenger’s seat.

She didn’t seem to notice me as I approached, but I certainly noticed her. She was just sitting there, looking straight ahead as if deep in thought, cradling a big bag of cheese puffs in her left arm, putting puffs in her mouth with her free hand.

I kept walking, got in my truck, and left.

Amen.

So, tt, I usually agree with you, but a weird part of this diet is the energy it takes to convert fat to carb. Apparently you burn a few more calories doing this. Not a ton, but on a 2k diet, about 400.

Jinxy, the “di” in “diet” stands for discipline. Sounds like you’ve got that in spades. 👍🏻

Update: I would kill my future firstborn for a bagel. Kidding, but i have hung in there. 16 lbs lost in a month. Yes some is water. Yes I have now had a couple of days of feeling hungry. In general: I feel a bit tired (though I have been averaging less sleep lately). I take quite a few vitamins. This tells me the long term sustainability of this diet is nil. I grow a but sick of the food, but still find tasty options. Freezing portions of meat has been helpful to stay on track. I miss ketchup with some of the burger options. I have still managed to eat out three times and not starve. I have grown to love dark chocolate. 90 percent and higher preferred. It has been nice to have a chocolate option at night and especially at movie theaters. Cauliflower coconut pizza crust is okay, but not the same as real crust. My clothes are looser, but have a long way to go. Would like to lose 20 more before I transition back to normal foods. Have had no allergy type tongue reactions since i cut carbs, so that is a plus.

Long term, the best way to lose weight is to not really give yourself X weeks to lose Y weight, where Y is the total you want to lose. Make one small change of a real issue. Once that becomes a habit, make one more.

This approach takes longer, but the results are typically more permanent. Especially if vigorous exercise isn't part of your daily routine.

Good luck! It isn't easy, and there is no silver bullet. If you can set your goals to something like 3-4 pounds a month, you'll have a new lifestyle that fits your new you.

Oh I had that lifestyle a few years ago. I was really quite fit, going to the gym for 2 hours a day for about 5 days a week, or at least a 10 km (6 mile) run as an alternative. But then I went through incredible pressure of planning to marry a man that was totally not for me, then coming to terms after was a fiasco. Anyway, much self learning occurred but so did weight gain. I had a few other major life events occur. Anyway, I want to do the balanced meal and exercise thing but I need to lighten my load now.
