1. What are Pernts?

Pernts, and their predecessor "Points", are an invention by Dingle to liven your forum experience. You're provided pernt credits by virtue of posting on the forum, and you award these credits to reward or punish other forum members for their contributions. By receiving pernts in specific categories, each member, if they choose to display them, will have a listing of their pernts beside all their posts. Pernts are provided for the entertainment factor, and not to be taken seriously.

2. When can I start giving pernts?

For new members, the threshold to begin using pernts is 100 posts (actually 113, since you start accruing at 100), though we may adjust that number depending on how we see the system being used. If you're an existing member (with at least 100 posts) who has returned to the site, you'll begin accruing credits immediately upon posting.

3. How do pernt credits accrue?

Well, we're not going to post the code, but this should give you a good idea. The maximum amount of time you'll ever have to wait for a pernt credit to appear in your console (see below) is 13 posts. This is the baseline for any member (and no, non-members can't give pernts.) As your post count increases, a bonus factor is taken into account that decreases that 13-post window. For people with 100-249 posts, for example, that bonus factor is one additional pernt for every 80 posts. For 250-499, it's 1 in 75. The scale continues (though not uniformly) up through 15,000 posts, where the bonus factor is 1 in 40. The effect of this is: someone with 15,000 posts will end up getting a credit approximately once every 10 posts.

4. What is the console?

This is your control center for pernts. You can access it through your forum user control panel (the "Options" button at the top of the screen); there's a link on the far right. In there, you'll see a summary of how many credits you own, along with how many pernts you've received. On the right is a recent history of activity, including pernts both given and received, and notably, who was involved in the transaction, and in what thread.

5. So how do I actually give someone a pernt?

The way you use the system is to click on the [ P ] located at the bottom right of a post, next to the Quote and Edit buttons. A window will appear showing your current credits, the Pernt status of the member you selected, and two pull-down menus. You can select from one to three credits to give, and you must assign a category. You can not subtract pernts, btw.

6. Is there a limit to how much I can give?

I'll send the United Way your address.

Yes, there's a limit. Right now, it's set at a maximum of three pernts per day to any given individual, and a max of 10 pernts total in any day. You also have a limit on how many credits you can hoard; that's currently set at 20. And, expectedly, you can not award yourself pernts, nor will you be allowed to give them to your own alter.

7. How do I create my own categories?

You'll have to live with the ones available in the pull-down menu. There are eight fixed categories (Humor, Flaming, Class, Bitch, Prevert, and WTF?!, Unicorn Heart, and Dickel). You will also see some people with other pernt categories like Legend, Goddess, or Anti-Kuglo. These are special one-time donations to members from the admins (a little like the old title system, for those who were around for that.) Any given person will have only one special category, but obviously could have earned pernts in any or all of the fixed categories from other members.

8. What if I don't want to participate?

You're more than welcome to opt out. Go into your forum user control panel, click on "Edit Options", and under "Thread View Options" you'll see the Pernt status fields where you can choose to turn off displaying your pernts, and turn off displaying everyone else's pernts. (What you can't do is prevent someone from giving you pernts.) Pernts are turned off by default for new members.

9. I just registered a different member name. Transfer my pernts!!

We won't be transferring future earned pernts to another account. If you want a different member name, ask an admin to change your current one. And the old point system is gone, so we won't convert points into pernts. Got it?

10. What's a nanoceph?

It's short for nanocephalous.
