so you can give me shit later about it

I'm determined to quit cigarettes, so I figure this is my last day. I made a promise to a friend of mine a couple weeks back that this Saturday would be the day to quit. I hope the weather's good, and I can just ride my bike all weekend. I'm gonna wanna crawl outta my skin at some point. I just wanna be able to breathe normal again.

It's easy. Just make a decision to stop and don't associate any emotional distress, weight gain, etc. on quitting. All that stuff happens anyway. Congrats. Don't look back.

It gets easier every day once you stop-----exponentially.

If you start again I'm leaving the forum.

Seriously.

Most states got a settlement from the tabacco companies and set up departments to help their residents quit. For instance, Ohio's gives you six weeks of free nicotine patches (800) 934-4840. Might want to check it out for your state. Good luck.

Take it from me. You, Mug, are never going to breathe normal.

It gets more difficult after each beer consumed in a bar----- exponentially.

Come'on Buddy.....You need to do this.

Have you thought about tapering off as opposed to cold turkey. It is a real shock to the system this has been a part of you for 30 years.....I know. Accupuncture is also helpful for curbing addictive cravings.....this I also know.

later

Posted by memdink on 09-10-2004 06:08 PM:

Funny you mention that. I had accupuncture to quit smoking. At first I had no cravings, but at the time I didn't really want to quit, and I started again. Cigarettes never tasted the same after the procedure, though. They tasted especially bad when I was sick. It was pretty weird.

blowing your brains out is an awesome way to quit smoking

If you remember, I quit on 4-20.
It's mighty fine not smoking.
I like the breathing easy and tasting food parts second and third best.

good luck mugtoe! it was a tough choice, encourage you to quit or encourage you to smoke (and goodbye caffeine ), but you can do it!

Skalie's got a point there, ol' pal.

Good luck. Cold turkey's the best.

Come t'think of it, how'n hell'd they ever come up with "cold turkey", i.e., why ain't it called "cold chicken", or sumpin' like that?

Amen.

I just realized that I can book a flight to London in November for like $300. There's consolation in that, at least.

I quit 2 years ago when I came down with a bad cough. It wasn't a mental thing. My body basically said 'stop doing this to me!'.

Posted by oxsan on 09-10-2004 10:50 PM:

For me at least cold turkey was the only way.

I quit over a month ago, cold turkey(and no cheating).
I'm sure you can do it, too. good luck, mug.

Posted by Large Filipino on 09-10-2004 11:05 PM:

Good luck,Mug.
This isn't gonna help but I tried to quit for me so many fucking times and the longest I've gone was 3 months but I just don't have the willpower.
Even after a smoke,I get lightheaded and when I check my blood pressure,it goes way up,like 150/105,and I take meds to control this. I tried everything, but if you don't have the willpower, you can't do it.
I still try to cut back, but it's hard. I ran out of smokes once at home and I went nuts turning everything upside down looking for a smoke.
I heard Tobacco's more addicting than Heroin.
I'm inclined to believe that.
