Using a PC as an external hard drive for a Mac

Possible?

You can use a firewire external hard drive with, say, an iBook to produce movies using iMovie.

So if you connect the iBook to a PC with firewire, you should be able do the same, using the hard drive (or a partition thereof) of the PC as an external hard drive.

or not?

That's like a dog impregnating a cat I think.
But then again,CDR's work with either one.
Who knows?

isn't that called a file server?

edit:Firewire can be used for networking too, I believe (for a couple computers that is), hence the fileserver label.

Cheers

Well sort of, if I transferred the movie to the iBook, then did the dirty with iMovie, then transferred it back, it would be using the PC as a file server.

What I want to do is use the hard drive of the PC like a hard drive, as in edit to it from iMovie.

Think someone's going to come along in a bit with some "fat 32 partitioning" type comment in a bit.

Just create a network share on the Windows PC and mount it on the Mac. You can then treat it as a hard disk, it just won't be terribly fast.
