so....what should the nfl do to the pats if they deem the game balls were underinflated purposely or allowed to become underinflated purposely?

hard to ignore when 11 of 12 balls fall outside specs, and the 12th can't be tested because a fan took it home.

i personally thing that belichik should be suspended for the superbowl and all of next season, brady should lose a the superbowl and most of next season, and draft picks should be lost...in other words, it should mirror what the saints got - especially since this is not their first tag for cheating.

Polygraph.
That simple.
If I was truly innocent I would demand it.
Brady prefers soft balls.
He's a goddamn professional he knew he fucking knew.
And the only ball that was in specs?
The kicker's ball.
C'mon now.

polygraph and or pay attention to balls, but is there not too many polygraph cables to fit on a nfl ball?

You know what would help? If the refs or some other support crew, independent of the teams, maintained their balls.

A polygraph wouldn't prove a thing. If lying is second nature, you don't even have to be taught how to beat the machine.

Myth Busters tried and failed.
If you are truly innocent that needle would act the same as when the questioner ask you what your name is. That's a control question.
What I'm getting at here is that if I would be accused of something I didn't do I WOULD DEMAND IT.
Wouldn't you?

Youre wrong LF. And if MB did do it,then its one of themany they have fucked up somewhere along the line. It has been proven, they are beatable as in absolute liars have passed with flying colours as it were, and they have been proven to indicate lying when in fact no lies were being told.

They are not reliable. If you are foolish enough to insist on one, then more fool you. It can not possibly help you, it doesnt get the cops off your back if you pass it, but it sure as fuck convinces the common idiot like yourself, that you must be lying if you fail, as youve indicated.

There is nothing to gain by taking it, you can only lose. Think about that dude, it doesnt matter if the test does not indicate lying, its unreliable then. If it says youre lying, then all of a sudden the trial by media mentality says youre guilty.

Something tells me this still will not be enough explanation for you.

I've had one done.
Science backs it up.
And some states use it as evidence.
It is what it is.

No it fucking doesnt. Science at best suggests its more reliable than chance, but not by much.

As for use in some US states ... use, maybe. You cant simply say I took a poly, and passed so Im innocent. If it says the wrong thing according to prosecutors, you can not have it before the court simply because it was done, and said X. Its not evidence until the prosecutor accepts it as evidence, and why would he if you pass and he still wants to pursue you?

quote:
Almost every state fits into one of two categories; those that find them completely inadmissible and those that allow their admission with "the stipulations of both parties" (meaning both you and the prosecutor agree to admit the test results as evidence).

States like California, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and Florida allow the tests if everyone agrees to them, but may put different emphasis on the test's accuracy.

California lawyers, for instance, can present the results to the jury, and allows them to draw whatever inferences from it they wish.
Georgia law, on the other hand, allows defendants who suffer damage because of a false result on a polygraph test (which are somewhat frequent) to sue the polygraph operator for damages and attorneys fees.
According to Florida lawyers, it is the one state that does require some people to submit to polygraph tests (previously convicted sex offenders), but even then those test results cannot be used against them in court, and are for use only within the course of their therapy.

The states in which polygraphs are inadmissible include New York, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. In these states, even if both parties wish to enter polygraph test results into evidence, it is forbidden (except in very rare scenarios).

Some states, like New York and Texas, forbid their use completely in all employment and law enforcement contexts.
Other states, like Massachusetts, do not allow them to be entered as evidence, but CAN use them as supporting probable cause (to obtain search warrants).

Federal courts have their own rules on when to allow the admission of polygraph evidence (it is usually at the judge's discretion). For a complete list of the state and federal rules regarding polygraphs, you can check here for your state.

Its not DNA (and this has issues too), its closer to astrology.

Note Massachusetts, cant be used to clear or convict you, but can give them the evidence needed for a warrant ...ie: it can fuck you, but can not help you.

Note Georgia. LOL.

Note California, left up to the jury to decide what it means... awesome. Let a bunch of housewives and frustrated salesman decide the validity of a polygraph. Not just the guilt or innocence, but also the scientific merit of astrology.

Good summation, Tuba. The author of the quoted article was factually incorrect in at least one point - Texas does in fact allow the use of polygraph examinations during police investigations with the consent of the person to be examined. Any result is at best indicative of directions for further investigation, not demonstrative either way on questions of culpability.

nvm... I just reread my own quoted article.

Regardless, the use of a poly in a court is a frightening concept.

Next they will allow psychics, tea leaves and tarot cards. Wait its America, you probably prefer coffee, what with the association between England and Tea, and that taxation storm in a tea cup...

The article claimed that Texas prohibited their use completely in law enforcement contexts. Which would include investigatory usage, as that is most definitely a law enforcement context..

true, but different quarterbacks prefer different inflations. it's pretty well known that brady likes balls to be at the very bottom end of the allowed psi. aaron rodgers is known to prefer balls inflated to the upper end allowable. so the fact that both teams played with the same balls doesn't mean that both quarterbacks derived the same advantage from the way they were inflated.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder about a couple of things in this meaningless brouhaha: 1) What was the temperature differential between the room where the pressure was checked, and where the game was played?, and 2) How long between final inflation and the referees before game checks?

When you compress a gas, it gets warmer. As it cools, it loses some pressure - rule of thumb witu compressed air is that when you drop the temp 10 degrees F, you lose a pound of pressure. That's not exact, or absolute, as container characteristics can modify that, but it is a fair working approximation.

If the air entered the football at 90 degrees from the compressor, and the ambient temp on the field was 60 degrees, there's 3 pounds loss right off the top once the basll cools to ambient temp. Seems some engineer on a website raised the point and did first pass rough calculations to that effect, but I only read a blurb, not the story.

Air temp dif was the first thing that went through my head. 8th grade science 101. Personally, I think the whole thing is a distraction while some peckerwood Califucktard congressman is trying to ramrod a national law against body armor for everyone but government employees.

2) 2.5 hours

as to the first point, yeah, that point has been debated in great detail. it's interesting that none of the colts' balls suffered the same deflation, and were presumably subject to the same drop in temperature from the locker room to the field.

In any event the NFL sucks.
They get our taxes.
We build their stadiums.
And their ticket prices are unaffordable to most.
Fuckers.
