" Future years will never know the seething hell and the black infernal background of countless minor scenes and interiors, (not the official surface courteousness of the Generals, not the few great battles) of the Secession war; and it is best they should notthe real war will never get in the books." ~ Walt Whitman
I've seriously considered a career reboot more than once. I have too many sunk years doing what I do. A new specialization may be somewhat fulfilling for awhile, but I anticipate boredom would set in eventually. Plus pension would POOF... I've settled for taking up several hobbies, volunteering, and I've recently started writing. It helps.
Non-fiction will probably not result in a best seller, and I'm ok with that. I'm still not sure how I'm going to tackle publishing: Self-publish? Don't? In my own country or USA? KDP (which looks SO easy compared to other options) or not? A friend of mine did a KDP e-book through amazon and said it was relatively easy compared with alternatives. He recommended it, stipulating that royalties weren't great, but neither was his first attempt at a book. He said it was a cool experience and that the downfall is that your taxes become a pain in the ass because of dealing with foreign income as they only pay from the USA despite where you make it available.
