What I see is that the democratic leadership has acquired learned helplessness.
From what you ask? Donald Trump's inability to hold to the boundaries of law and not brag about breaking them?
Fox News's reality distortion bubble and its inability to report on an issue without inverting its colors?
The learned helplessness comes from Mitch McConnell. He has been the shameless stone wall since 2008 until now. He stole a supreme court pick. He prevented the discussion of Russian interference in the 2016 election before the election. He has ignored multiple impeachable infractions of presidential conduct ranging from violations to the emoluments clause to refusals to obey subpoenas from co-equal branches of government to outright racism and violations of judicial orders out of racial intent.
Mitch owns the senate and the senate is owned by republicans (due to gerrymandering) and republicans are immune to shame and calls to do their patriotic duty. They are approving decisions and appointments by the executive branch, lockstep. They are assuming more and more power while nullifying the power of their opponents. They are getting the policies and judges they want. They know the demographics are shifting against them, so they are locking in advantages that don't depend on demographics and are fundamentally antidemocratic.
And meanwhile, democrats send letters. Stern ones. They don't want to fight, they want to fundraise.
"What's the point of trying to obstruct and impeach the president if a co-equal and co-opted branch of government is just going to absolve the accused despite the evidence? What's going to stop the press from claiming that we've overreached and now we've opened the door for Trump and the senate to declare he's found innocent? What are we going to do about Mitch McConnell? :'("
You see, republicans don't ask questions like this when they are beaten at the ballot box. They regroup and fight harder with every tool in their shitty little tool box. Faith and credit of the United States? We'll use that. Expiring unemployment benefits in the middle of the great recession which our policies caused? Pull that shit out and bash some heads with it until we get permanent tax cuts for the rich. Shitty little incident in Libya in which Americans died due to the chaos that was Libya? Let's hold 300 hearings on that which will find nothing and, after that, we'll hold our 301st until we Trump that bitch. Republicans get to use their power in the minority because "principle". Democrats never get to use their power because "politics", "overreach", "aren't you supposed to be better than republicans?"
The republican voters have been taught to fight and win at all costs. The democratic voters have been taught to appreciate working together and compromise, never really fight..
And so republicans are incentivized to fight, act in bad faith, never compromise because any failure in the process will appeal to republican voters and make democratic voters question "why did we fail? Could we have compromised more? We need to work together with these people who call us traitors while siding with the Russians while cheating in their elections while flooding the system with corporate and billionaire money while denying science and reality on subjects ranging from climate science to crowd size. We need to work with these people who think we are trash and should go home to our own countries."
And you can't. You can't work with these people and you can't fight them. You just keep taking the hits. "Oh, another subpoena ignored. Another rape allegation under the rug. Another payoff to a porn star. Another corrupt arms deal with a hostile dictator. Another concentration camp. What can we do? we're helpless."
And this is why democratic leadership is so fucking pissed with Justice Democrats. Because they aren't helpless. They aren't happy. And they want a fight. You want the position of leadership? Show some fucking leadership. Act. Fight. Every tool in the toolbox, pull that shit out and force a discussion. Children are in cages. Show some goddamn backbone on their behalf.
You assholes sure had back bone when it came to Al Goddamn Franken. Why don't you use just a touch of that fight on the Pig in Chief and his enabler, the Kentucky wheeler dealer and his corrupt wheeler dealer wife, Mitch Goddamn McConnell? Why?
Because it's a lot easier to fight rational people capable of shame than it is to fight those who are irrational and incapable.
And those are the ones who need fighting most. Fuck. Why is it that a little Puerto Rican girl is the one showing you how it's done? FUCK.
I agree with most of that. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitch McConnell went home at night, took off his human suit, and bathed in a fluid filled sack full of nutrients from his home planet. There is something seriously wrong with him. And yeah, they are all being pussies. But, if we're going to play the blame game, each and every one of them is there because Americans voted a particular way, within a particular system, that they have the ability to influence, but they are far too busy stuffing their ignorant faces with big macs and a side of meth to create any change.
Fuck it. Iím moving on to the next subject which is hacking me off. Fucking pretending.
Everybody knows that Donald Trump was in contact with Russians; the fucking guy did their financial laundry.
Everybody knows that Donald Trump was in contact with Wikileaks.
Everybody knows that the Russians stole information from the democrats.
Everybody knows the Russians gave their information to Wikileaks.
BUT thereís NO COLLUSION.
You see, if Donald Trump got dirt on Hillary from the Russians, like his son intended during the meeting with the Russians at Trump tower, then it would be bad. Breaking the law even.
Buuuut, if Donald Trump gets the information through someone heís holding hands with WHILE the Russians are holding that someoneís other hand, then itís clean.
Wikileaks laundered the information and everyone is pretending that none of the points in this triangle knew what the other points were doing. Everyone is pretending theyíre stupid because to not pretend means you have to deal with the brazen corruption thatís being done in your stupid face.
This might be okay if it was just the way things are, but it isnít of course. When democrats are caught in compromising positions, when democrats have a hint of corruption in their history, a shit ton of bricks gets dropped on them. With Republicans we act stupid. With democrats we act like Columbo. With democrats, we announce concerns about voter fraud, the relevance of emails on a pervertís computer, the ethical problems with foundation work and atomic nuclear fuel sales.
With Republicans, we become Shultz from Hoganís Heros as they gerrymander, put themselves in charge of their own elections, prevent anyone from securing those elections or make those elections capable of physical audit, or work with
the goddamn Russians.
Iím really sick of everybody acting stupid half the time and the only reason why I see people doing this is because half the political system is rabid, like the guy in the YouTube above, while the other half isnít. If you are a lazy animal control officer, are you going to risk your well being kicking the rabid dogs or are you going to prove your bonafides on the tame ones?
We are surrounded by lazy, cowardly people who are pretending to do their jobs but act stupid when it counts because when it counts involves personal discomfort.
