and now the only pictures taken during the show that turned out worth a shit. i don't think mary understood that with the only lighting being on the stage her pictures would turn out like shit.
the first band to take the stage was black lamb. some local denver band we didn't really care about. their singer was completely fucking wasted by the time they took the stage and slurred his words like crazy, but as soon as he started singing the slurring was barely noticeable. no pictures of them, but here's one of the songs they played that night.
they were enjoyable, but it was kind of hard to tell the difference between songs in their set because they all kind of sounded the same.
the next band up was another local band called snake rattle rattle snake. i've only got one picture of them setting up and it turned out kind of crappy, but i like the blue lighting so whatever.
their set was fucking amazing. the best song of their set was parallel lines and this youtube clip doesn't do it justice at all. the only complaint i have about them is that they really need to learn how to set up their microphones. there was a lot of feedback at times that really distracted you from their performance. as soon as we got home i tracked down their four song ep and bought it (ship the fucking thing already insound).
last up was the giraffes who played an amazing set and we lost count after about 20 songs.
there was so much shit being thrown at the band it was crazy and i feel bad for whoever had to clean up at the end of the night. aaron ducked behind jens so jens starts leaning back on top of aaron while playing. eventually jens is pretty much laying down on aaron and just keeps going like it's totally normal.
at some point the microphone cable and the bass cable get all tangled up and aaron spent about five minutes trying to untangle them. he then gave up and started wrapping the microphone cord around his throat and has jens walk off stage pulling the cable tight and continues singing the entire time. then he took the cable off his neck and they had a little tug-of-war.
when they came back out on stage for an encore andrew picked up jens and started humping his leg. the encore was great and involved dropping the microphone into the audience and letting random people sing parts of songs.
i wish they would have played haunted heaven, but i guess i can't have everything i want.
quote:Originally posted by SimpleSimon I'm glad you had a great time. That's a damned long drive for a concert. I think its great it was worth the effort for you.
unfortunately if there is a band i want to see it means i'm pretty much guaranteed a 100+ mile drive in any direction unless it's one of the rare times somebody gets booked in lincoln. i was off on the actual distance we drove though. apparently it's only ~520 miles to denver from here. either way it was well worth the numb ass and sleeping uncomfortably in the back seat of a rental car. concerts i had been to in the past were always well established names that only played stadiums and shit. bands that might still enjoy touring, but it was pretty obvious that at this point it was just business to them. it was really nice to see bands that are still having fun playing their music, and are willing to play small venues and mingle with the crowd while other bands are on stage.
i wish i could have organized trying to meet up with the colorado folks better, but the uncertainty of if i would even get the time off played havoc on making any concrete plans right up until the week of the trip.
The zombie guy is Maris the Great. He wanders around the local metal scene and does crazy photoshoots where he 'kills' local metal bands because they threaten his band. I've participated in a couple photoshoots and Morgan shot a lot of pictures for him. Oh and once we went to a local awards show and I went as Maris' dead boyfriend which basically meant that I played dead for several hours, hilariously slumping over and falling out of my chair at random times.
